I was here with a friend for lunch on a weekend and it was busy. The food came out fast regardless and was very good and reasonably priced. Don't sit by the window even with the shades are down, we were seating!

Old Buddies is an excellent place for a genuine Chinese lunch with many great dishes, handmade by a chef and kitchen staff who care. Try the shrimp dumplings in soup or with noodles; the wanton in soup on with noodles - they are the best of any restaurant in Vancouver, which is saying something. Lunch prices are reasonable, serving sizes are generous, and the staff is friendly and efficient.

The evening menu changes over to lots of great seafood dishes, all prepared with the freshest ingredients and real attention to detail. Try the crab or lobster, you will not be disappointed, some of the best Chinese seafood in Vancouver!
The evening menu is moderately priced, but good value considering all the seafood is kept fresh in the kitchen or in tanks prior to preparation for you.

The crowd here is definitely local, but don't worry, the servers are more than happy to translate and assist diners with explanations of unfamiliar dishes and the different preparation styles available for seafood.

Very family-friendly, lots of families and old buddies gather here for great meals.

It was my father who first talked us into giving this restaurant a try as he was impressed with their food and service. We went on a weekday as we knew that parking on the streets would be a problem on the weekends as that area is usually jam packed with cars. Off the topic, if you are into watching a parade of exotic race cars driven by folks who have just attained the legal age to drink, that is where you should hang out on a Saturday night. There is parking at the back of the restaurant but you may end up with some free gifts, a dent on your car door and seagull deposit on your windshield .

We ordered the Pork Liver Soup with Mustard Greens, Steamed Flounder on Lotus Leaf, Sweet and Sour Pork, Deep Fried Oysters and Noodles with Shrimp Roes. The soup was highly recommended by our affable waitress although it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Anyway, it was delicious and the livers were full of flavor and not overcooked. The flounder was steamed the traditional way with slivers of pork and mushrooms on top. It was fresh, delectable and masterfully steamed. The oysters tasted fresh although they came from a container and they were beautifully deep fried, kudo to the chef for double deep frying the oysters to achieve crispness without greasiness. The sweet and sour was a disappointment as the sauce was as blend as tap water. Finally, the noodles, despite the small portion, was al dente and chewy, sprinkled with a generous amount of shrimp roes.

Unfortunately, we have gone back on three occasions and while we ordered similar dishes, they had dropped from stellar to mediocre. On our last visit, the noodles with wontons that we ordered was hilarious. The wontons were the size of golf balls and the shrimps inside were disproportionately large. In this case, bigger is not better as everything must compliment each other.

Being a consumer these days is no easy task. We get frustrated with restaurants that do not meet our standard and even more so when they become inconsistent. In the meantime, I am looking for a reason to go back one more time.

This is a very pleasant restaurant for casual dining which has good service. I tried out their Won Ton Soup Noodles and I was so surprised to find out that each won ton was huge with a lot of shrimp fillings in them but on the other hand the noodles were kind of disappointed because they were so thin. I have a mixed feeling with their food.

This restaurant is located where a lot of restaurants and cafes are on Alexandra street.
I was a little skeptical at first because of the name. However, it was recommended by a friend.
Pricing is decent, not too expensive . The staff were patient and helped explain some of the dishes to us.
We went for a late lunch and were satisfied with it. I ordered the dumplings and noodle soup. My wife ordered the wontons and noodles soup. There could have been a little more noodles in these dishes, but the size of the dumplings and wontons made up for it..
The fried rice was a decent portion and the deep fried silverfish was good as well.
We were happy with the food and service.
Now if you plan to come for seafood, I would recommend walking by the tanks first to check on the freshness of the fish before you order any.
The only other issue which is typical or this area is that the free parking for the restaurants are few and the spaces are tight.
Do NOT park in a different plaza and walk away as every plaza is very protective of their parking for this reason.
