It’s been a long time since we’ve been to an Asian restaurant where everything we had tasted great. The xiao long bao is juicy, Peking duck flavourful, duck and taro dish crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, shrimp light and fresh, Shanghai buns moist, gailan fresh, bean curd stuffed with mushrooms tasty, and desserts unique - flakey crust and sweet, and red bean balls like a play on PNE mini donuts. Service good, restaurant busy too.

Had duck liver wontons, shredded pigs ear and braised short ribs. I highly recommend them all! The place was full, but service was still super fast and friendly.

Came here with the family, called in advance for a table to seven. (highly recommend you to reserve table in advance since they tend to get crowded during dinner rush). The food was amazing. We didn't have dim sum because we came during dinner. But their dinner menu does not disappoint.

We decided to enjoy our dim sum brunch at the Shanghai River. The Shanghai dumplings (contains soup) were all so thin that when one tried to pick one off of the parchment paper the skin broke and all of the soup from the dumpling leaked into the steam basket. Not once did the servers refresh the hot water (for the tea) although we used the customary signal for such service. The green onion pancake tasted on the doughy side.

Impressive place, menu and for those who had great experience here rave about Shanghai River. That's why this is so disappointing to write because our experience fell way short of that. We got there as soon as it opened and we were just one of two groups at the time. So it took 15 minutes for someone (not sure if he was a waiter or a host) to finally sit us down, the it took literally 20 minutes for someone to come to take our order and that's only because my wife signaled one of 10 people just standing around to come and get our order.

Once we ordered, the food came very quickly. I'm not sure if we ordered the right things or not, but we were definitely dissatisfied with the flavoring and the texture of the food. The Noodles were dry, the spicy prawns were ok, but it looked like half serving of the last time and the vegetable dumplings were a dud. I wasn't expecting Dihn Tai Fung, but c'mon, when you are paying $26 for a dish, you would expect some volume and better flavors. I guess the best part was going to Tim Horton's afterwards for some coffee and Tim Bits.. There are so many employees who could be doing something.. but they weren't. Maybe they kicked things up later in the evening.. but shouldn't all customers be treated that way? and with consistency?
