The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room quaint and comfortable. No AC during warmer months could be a bit uncomfortable. The location in charming Devonport is almost perfect with many shops, eateries and several galleries nearby. Just across the street is the 15 minute ferry to Auckland. Take the ferry and avoid the Auckland city traffic and parking hassle. Public parking while at the Esplanade is available on street and in time limited lots. Be sure to check with reception to avoid getting ticketed. If you don’t need AC and enjoy “boutique” vs all updated amenities accommodation, the Esplanade is an excellent choice. I would stay here again when visiting Auckland.

If you want to stay in Auckland but don't want the rush and tall buildings etc, stay right here. Catch a ferry over to the city anytime you like.
Lovely rooms with lots of space, comfy beds and amenities. We stayed in Victoria Suite and The Harbour Sunroom and they were fantastic.
The staff are friendly and exceptional in making you feel at home and help with anything you need. They looked after us very very well thanks guys!
Lovely suburb with niche food and shopping and quiet ambience.
Parking (free public) is across the road in 3hr and 24hr lots.
Def stay here again!

Stayed for two nights. It was hot and there was no air conditioning and poor ventilation. The result was we had to keep our windows open and the noise from the street below kept us awake until late and we were woken early by the rubbish truck and deliveries to the cafe on the ground floor.
Wall papers and paint in the stairways is peeling off, the bathrooms could do with some maintenance and while the bedrooms are pleasant, our overall experience was one of disappointment.
Breakfast was included which was good but the service was very slow.
Hard to find parking over the weekend.
On the positive side the location is great, there are nice walks around Devonport, and easy access to the city with the ferry.

Very central hotel, 2 minutes walk to Ferry which takes you to Auckland City. Even though Hotel is old, it has a lovely atmosphere about it. The bedroom was small but comfortable, bathroom was huge. Breakfast was delicious, cooked to order only criticism would be it would have been nice to have freshly brewed coffee and not a plunger!
Great location to walk around Devonport and take in sights etc. Would stay here again and recommend to others.

I passed by The Esplanade Hotel after getting off the ferry. The old hotel was just across the street from the pier and you would not miss it because it was on Victoria Road which was one of the main roads in Devonport.
