“What a perfect alternative Hen Venue!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2016

Dear world, you have to give yourselves the pleasure of staying in Lough Crew House and estate. This was the 6th Hen I was involved in organising and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it was the best venue overall. The House blew us away, the pictures really do not give it justice and we were all impressed that, on such a wet day, the open fire and stove were lit for us and that each elegant four poster bed also had an electric blanket each! The house however was very warm even in that weather. We did our own Mad Hatters Tea party in the dining room which was the perfect venue before being treated to a delicious and gorgeously presented dinner by Veronica and Aggie. The Murder Mystery was also great craic once we all got into it and we were very impressed with the V Niteclub, especially with the free entrance fee and bubbles on arrival. The following day the sun came out and we got to view the lovely grounds on the estate. Now I am just trying to figure out another excuse to visit, highly recommended alround!

We had a family do here over a weekend. It's set in an amazing place - beautiful views and countryside for walks. Really historical and worth reading up on the Plunkett family who originally owned the land . Visit their church and graveyard, 5 minute walk. Visit Sliabh na Caillaigh ( 3.5k yes bc ) Neolithic tomb, unspoiled amazing place. The house is lovely and cosy and Agnes and staff just perfect. Highly recommended. Only one little area for improvement would be to remove owners clothes from bedrooms. Thank you Agnes xxx

Hi thank you so much for your review. We are really glad that you enjoyed the stay and mention the wonderful history that we have here along with the walks and Cairns.
Thank you also for mentioning the area for improvement, I would just like to point out that the bedrooms referred to are in the owners private house that we rent out on occasion for extra accommodation for very large groups. She lives here herself under usual circumstances. The main Loughcrew House certainly shouldn't have any clothes in the bedrooms.
Hope to see you again for another event.
Kind regards
George

The sun had already set by the time the bus arrived at the gates to Loughcrew House. As she waited for her suitcase, she stood in the dark, quietly admiring her surroundings.

Bags unloaded, the Pilgrims followed the pathway up to the house. The sound of her suitcase rolling along the drive seemed much louder than it probably was. She stood for a moment, marvelling at the entryway. Passing through to the house itself, she soon made her way through a maze of rooms, each more impressive than the last.

The Pilgrims were weary and eager to get settled in their rooms. She was directed through the main living area and found herself in a lovely library. She imagined enjoying a cup of tea and a good book, but alas there would no time for that.

When she opened the door to her room, she was delighted! It was exactly as she saw on their website. She had to remind herself they would only be spending one night here and she was determined to make the most of it.

The Pilgrims made themselves at home in various areas of the house. Some turned in early, others gravitated toward the kitchen, a few ventured out onto the grounds. A fire was lit in the Great Room where she settled on one of the couches. Soon, others gathered to enjoy the warmth, admire the house, and get to know each other a bit better.

She could have sat staring at the fire all night. But with a sunrise ritual planned, combined with the hike up to the cairns, it was best to turn in and get as much rest as possible.

What a buzz staying in such a big old house, full of character and quirks, shabby chic, some bedrooms were better maintained than others but none the less the craic was mighty. It's self catering for the most part, so bring someone who's good at cooking a full Irish for a big group and folks to do the wash up. We had the brilliant Veronica cook our 3 course banquet on the Saturday and it was served up by the lovely and charming Agnes! The icing on the cake was they even did the wash up!

The scenery is breath taking, the Loughcrew Gardens were blooming and the coffee shop had great big slabs of cake washed down with skinny cappuccinos!

We did some activities in the adventure centre with the lovely hipster boy Danny I think, bless him he put up with a lot of stick from us! We did zip lining, archery, climbing wall and the witches ropes which were actually the best fun in the end! We also visited the ancient church ruins and graveyard on site which were cool!

If you make the trip then you must visit the cairns up the hill, grab the key from the cafe and you can have your own mini New Grange experience and stand in the centre of a 5000 BC burial chamber, also spectacular views of the surrounding countryside plus a nice wee coffee shop with....you've guessed it more cake and skinny cappuccinos!

Free wifi but very poor mobile signal, 1st world problems and sure we can all do with a bit of peace and quiet if you ask me!

Would you go back I hear you ask.....oh yes especially with the same group of madsers!

A whole group of us stayed at the Loughcrew house for a weekend and we had a great time. The house is old but well enough maintained, charming in a shabby chic way and the location is pretty much off grid but fantastically charming. One the last night we were taken care of by Agnes and Veronica to cater for dinner and it was great. Fantastic food and lovely hospitality. We'd be happy to come back again. Just make sure you are entertaining yourself as the next club is 20 mins away...
