Our group of five friends stopped at Sonney's BBQ Shack Bar & Grill for lunch after a 3-hour hike at Emerald Bay. We were pleasantly surprised to find a BBQ place with such high reviews on the drive back.
We asked the friendly waitress for her favorite item. She recommended Sonney's BBQ Brisket Sandwich ($16.00). Three of us ordered it with coleslaw (an extra $1.00). I've eaten at a lot of excellent BBQ joints, many in Texas and the South, and this sandwich ranks with the best of them. A sandwich can be made or broken by the bread, and the fresh French roll with house spread ensured that the focus remained on the delicious and juicy chopped beef brisket (supposedly smoked for 12-14 hours).
This restaurant has their act together. Friendly service, great atmosphere (cheery open dining area with flat screen TVs), and most importantly delicious food at a reasonable price.
