Charming welcoming pub with a roaring wood stove. Lovely on a very rainy windy night. Good food with large portions and a good ale and gin selection. Nice chat with the owner Bridget. Felt very safe dining here. Good COVID precautions in place . Would call again if passing

We have the most loving and well behaved friendliest family Dog and we was Just told we are not allowed to book because they do not accept Staffies.

The rule should be towards the dog owner (defined by the owner being a fully responsible, safe and considerate dog owner) and not the dog!

Thanks for your comment - however the request to bring your Dog related to a stay on our Campsite and not a table in the Pub. Some breeds of dogs are not accepted on many campsites and unfortunately Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of them. Further guidance is on PitchUp - the booking system we use for our campsite reservations.

Popped into this charming Pub on our way home from holiday. We were were welcomed by a really lovely lady (think may have been the Landlady) who seated us and took our order. We we had the Chef's Special which was wild bore sausages in a very large yorkshire pudding, with veg,
it was huge and really good. The Menu was varied and also had a snack option. All the Covid requirements were in place which made us feel comfortable and we really enjoyed our visit in a beautiful location. Highly recommend and will be returning when we are in the area again. Thank You.

I think we must have visited on an evening when covid regulations had overwhelmed the manager of the Duke of York. There were only half a dozen diners at the time we booked but the young staff, although eager to help, where clearly very new to the job to the point of not knowing anything about drinks or the menu. I received a half of stout to be told it was definitely the cider I ordered. Other tables were having similar issues. I felt sorry for them as they clearly wanted to do a good job but had had no training at all. One other table left before ordering as they were told, quit rudely, that they had to order food and drink together. I'm sure this was just a bad night; others seem to love it here. The food was reasonably priced and ok.
