The food is lovely here, can’t fault it. The service was good. The reason I give a 3 is for the seating in the bar area itself. We were booked for a family of 7 with 2 dogs. Because of the dogs we could only sit in the bar area ( fair enough) but on arrival we were shown to our pre reserved table. It was spacious enough but on one side a rather narrow , wooden bench and on the other 3 of the 4 chairs were stools. It was adequate but uncomfy. Needs a bit of a re vamp in the bar area.

Called in on the off chance and were lucky to get a table. It wasnt packed when we arrived which was a little confusing..but we had to wait til 6.30 to be seated. But a massive menu...but decent enough for pub grub and there were a couple of specials. We all had pie and chips. The pie was delcious with huge chunks of steak in it. We had deserts as well. Choc fudge cake...cherry and choc cheeaecake and new york vanilla cheesecake. All were lovely. Overall I would recommend this place. Maybe think about booking. If i was staying in Buxton again id come back.

Thank you for you review. If you had to wait to be seated it was possibly because we needed to re-set a table or move tables around if you were a larger group or perhaps we were looking after other customers first. As well as our Dining Room we also have a Bar and outside seating in the Beer Garden at the rear which has been very busy during the good weather we have been having.

As a family we used to visit this place frequently, now its under new management and sadly to say its not great! The Yorkshire pudding was more like a pancake and the gravy like dish water! The kitchen looked to be run by children which says a lot for the food. Its such a shame as the pub is lovely and in great settings!!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you weren't happy with your Yorkshire Pudding and gravy. However we are disappointed that you didn't bring it to our attention during your visit and had given us the opportunity to discuss an alternative with you. As for you comment about the staff - we have an excellent team of younger staff who work very hard for us and are very loyal. They will always be doing their best. As we get older the younger generation tend to look very young to us - especially when we need to ID them! I don't feel that comment is appropriate and would much prefer that feedback is constructive and not personal.

A quick stop off on the way home from Matlock. The decor was a little dated inside the pub but the welcome was warm and professional. Led to a table which again was dated with its choice of mats etc and the menu was a bit dull. My partner ordered fish and chips which was well presented and tasty. I had a baked potato which was as expected.
It would be great to see this place brought up to date as they obviously have great staff and cleanliness was good. Just a little imagination?

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you didn't like the tablemats. The Main menu and our Specials board show homemade traditional food using fresh local produce wherever possible. We are a country pub with a campsite and we don't advertise it to be any different from that. We are pleased you found the welcome, staff and cleanliness good - some of the most important things to us and many people.
