We had to wait several weeks for our Sunday lunch at Gravetye, so expectations were rather high. It got off to a good start with a very pleasant gentleman directing us to a convenient parking slot very near to the hotel entrance.

After a pleasant pre-meal drink in the truly delightful and renowned Gravetye gardens we were eagerly anticipating lunch with, if anything, even higher expectations than hitherto! We found the dining room warm and inviting with a re-assuringly high waiting staff to diner ratio. Regrettably, the food did not quite live up to the promise, and whilst generally tasty, nothing was particularly memorable, except perhaps for the wrong reasons! Specifically, my rather meagre portion of main course pork belly was nearly all fat with precious little lean meat. I also found the bread over salty. Service overall was friendly and efficient, albeit with a noticeable lack of interest in how we found the food. Even faced with half a piece of uneaten [fat] pork belly, our waiter never enquired as to how I found the meal. On pointing out that my pork was virtually all fat, the only comment was "Ill let the kitchen know" - an unacceptable response in any restaurant, let alone one with Michelin star credentials.

Such a pity because we left feeling a little disappointed with the whole experience - perhaps they were simply having an 'off-day', and nothing I've said should deter people from visiting what is [in almost every respect] a rather wonderful venue, with the gardens
alone worth a visit!

This hotel is very expensive but that's no surprise. The level of service is exemplary and all of the staff, from the manager down, are most helpful and obliging. Our room was well appointed, quiet and comfortable and the gardens here have to be seen to be believed - they are fantastic. You can wander at will and even have a game of croquet if you wish.

Our one disappointment was the evening meal, which was arty-farty beyond belief with relatively small portions of food, many with strange flavours. We would have much preferred a classic English menu where the Chef wasn't trying to prove how imaginative he is - lavage flavoured ice cream with a chocolate dessert - I ask you! With such a wonderful vegetable garden to draw supplies from we were expecting much better.

Superb setting, great service. The food was a let down.Extremely salty smoked salmon mousse for starter. A very tiny piece of belly pork for main course which was 80% fat The cabbage was undercooked. A dessert which was supposed to be lemon drizzle cake and had no taste of lemon or any visible cake and tasted mostly of apple. Overpriced. We were only eating not staying. A great disappointment remembering back to my last visit several years ago.

Fantastic place to stay on all levels. This is a wonderfully, quiet location only a few miles from Gatwick airport. The Manor House is idyllic, set in the most beautiful gardens. Make sure you visit their world renowned victorian kitchen garden from which they use produce for their restaurant. We stayed in a fantastic corner room with lovely views over open countryside. The bed was comfortable and there were good in room facilities. We have the 7 course taster menu which was excellent. The restaurant is fantastic so if you like good food, pay this place a visit. The staff were without exception, friendly, welcoming and helpful. A fault-less stay. Highly recommended +++

We went for lunch and their set lunch menu, you have a choice of three starters and main course, plus pudding, two choices or a plate of cheese.

Great food and quality of service, it is excellent value.

Wonderful gardens to wonder round.
