We spent a month traveling in Thailand, staying at various 5 star hotels. The Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai was a clear stand-out. The setting among the rice paddies was serene and beautiful. The rooms were huge and beautifully appointed. Our outdoor terrace with a “bed swing” was to die for. Housekeeping was impeccable.

The service was wonderful. I wasn’t feeling well when I arrived and the woman at the desk sent a complementary pot of ginger tea to my room to help me to feel better. On another day, a staff person called a local pharmacy to ask about a medication I needed and arranged for someone to pick it up for an extremely modest fee (under $5 U.S.). This same level of outstanding service was evident in every aspect of the hotel.

Breakfast in the outdoor restaurant with a wonderful view was a great way to start the day. We also enjoyed a special group dinner at the residents’ pool. The flowers and setting were beautiful, and cocktails and food were delicious.

The pool was lovely (as other posters have noted, there were quite a few children at the main pool, but there is a smaller, adult only pool just below it). Service and food and drinks served at the pool were excellent.

We also enjoyed the participatory rice planting demonstration.

Finally, the spa was AMAZING. The private treatment rooms included a shower and a steam room and all the services were excellent. A totally zen environment.

There are so many superlatives in this review that you might think I am exaggerating about how good this hotel is, but once you go, you’ll see that the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai is a very special property. Althouh it is true that the hotel it is a little far from the City center, having this hotel to come home to makes the longish trip to the tourist sites well worth it.

I couldn't imagine a better hotel experience. You walk in and the grounds are just gorgeous. Mountains, rice fields, gorgeous buildings. The service was impeccable, food was amazing, and the rooms were so beautiful. Our spa experience was perfect as well. They really went above and beyond for our honeymoon as well. We got an incredible room upgrade to a pool villa- worth every penny, it is STUNNING! You get great privacy with these rooms. I can't say enough great things about our experience here. It was by far the best hotel we stayed at during our whole 3 week trip through Thailand and Vietnam.

Chiang Mail was way bigger than I expected and it's a good 45-minutes from the airport to this hotel, but worth it. Haven't been quite so relaxed in a while. The only issue was rather a lot of small kids in the pool, although you can escape this with an adults only pool at far end of main pool (this has cooler water too). Rooms very good (we had 401 and 402). Great staff. Thai food really outstanding (the Italian/international slightly less so, but still very good, especially considering where you are). Great tennis courts (empty), great spa (go for head, hands and feet), unused steam room and another cool plunge pool under the swimming pool too. Great gym. We were tld that mosquitoes would be a big proble, but we never saw one and weren't bitten once (end of March). Staff outstanding (especially the lovely people cleaning the rooms). Best tip? There's an ATM by the shops near reception! Night market worth a go and, of course, there are the elephants, although not close. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go for a high on the slope rather than a low villa and go for top floor, not bottom rooms.
