This was our first visit to this charming Pub. Our party of 7 included 3 children and it was a post Christmas gathering to catch up. The Pub was warm and welcoming. After we had ordered our pre lunch drinks our Menus were given to us by our waitress Danielle and we were left to choose . After about 5 minutes Danielle asked if we were ready to order, we weren't so she politely said she would come back in 5 . We caught her eye and she came over, took our orders for starters and mains and then checked back with us to be sure she had it right . She did have ! Well I must say from that moment on our dining experience just got better and better. Everything we ordered came together despite having at least 5 different starters and mains, very generous portions , piping hot fresh food , delicious well cooked variety of vegetables and fantastic gravy . Only 3 of the party managed dessert and they all looked fab ! The service from Danielle was spot on , friendly , efficient and timely . But it goes without saying that dining out comes from a Team as a whole , so a big Thank You to all the Team at the St Crispin. We all thoroughly enjoyed your Pub, hospitality , food and drink . In the words of Arnie ....." We'll be back "

We visited today on a whim, the Crispin is always friendly and welcoming. The last time we ate here we had our toddler who the staff were very patient and kind to.

Today we had crispy chicken with garlic butter, new potatoes and salad, steak and ale pie with chips. The crispy chicken was succulent, perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned. The salad was crisp, perfectly portioned and dressed with salad dressing.

The steak and ale was served on cabbage and the chips were of the large variety, soft, fluffy and moorish.

For desert my wife settled on a white coffee which you could smell from across the table, real roasted coffee. Mildly jealous I received my baileys cheese cake, instantly thinking I’m going to require help. The landlord asked if we wanted 2 spoons which underlined the attention to customer service.

Great service was received, tasty food was eaten and we left once more very satisfied. I’ve been eating at the Crispin on and off for 30+ years and can’t remember a bad meal. Over the last 5 years we’ve had some real treats, homemade pies, vegetable wellingtons, scampi and chips and proper burgers that would put gourmet burgers to shame.

Highly recommended.

We visited at lunchtime. The food was nice and there was plenty of it. However, the whole experience was soured for us by the loud chatter and laughter of the bar staff who, clearly, were not busy. Their laughter was unnecessarily loud. There was a customer at the bar who was, I think, a member of staff as she went behind the bar a few times. The noise coming from the bar made it almost impossible for us chat ourselves. The upshot was, we did not have coffee but fled to the peace and quiet of home.
This is a shame because we have eaten here before, admittedly some months ago, and had a great time. I can only assume there are different staff there now. They should be told that the customer comes first and their chatter should either be toned down or they should wait until they are off duty.
