Just a few metres back from the Zattere this user-friendly rental could hardly be better placed for ease of arrival and departure whether arriving by plane or by train. Once settled in with the aid of the warm 'meet and greet' welcome it becomes rapidly apparent that all of Venice and the islands are very easily reached from this location. The immediate neighbourhood combines the thrill of the Zattere and two lively local campi (San Barnaba and Santa Margherita) with more intimate calle and fondamente redolent with the feel of the real Venice. Within the sestiera there is a perfect balance of art, architecture and opportunities for just lovely strolls and secret spots to discover. A boon for those self-catering is the proximity of a supermarket (unusual for Venice) that is within minutes and well-stocked with high quality produce and an excellent range of wines, plus the more mundane items of everyday life. The apartment has a small but well-equipped kitchen area sufficient to exercise one's skills at producing Venetian dishes. For those staying longer, or with children, a washing machine and outside drying space are a great advantage. In fine weather the outside space invites alfresco dining - another rare bonus. For those who crave electronic connectivity, there is good Wi-Fi. Having stayed in other sestiere on previous occasions, we have discovered the perfect residence in Ca' Masena.
Ca Masena was the ideal base for a wonderful week in Venice. The apartment is well placed and we were met by a local representative who settled us in and showed us round.
The apartment was very clean and well equipped. It was also cosy and comfortable, including the bed.
The apartment is close to all the pleasures of Venice and we walked easily to and from our sightseeing trips.
We had a super week and recommend this apartment.
My second stay here and would recommend it. Perfect location and really comfortable apartmeant. Away from the crowds but only a 20 minute walk to San Marco or Rialto. Local area has great bars and restaurants. Supermarket 2 minutes away.
Would highly recommend this apartment - one of the major advantages is that it is in Dorsoduro, only a 15-20 min walk to St Mark's square which is very well signposted once you're over the Accademia Bridge (as is the Rialto Bridge). Some good restaurants walking distance from the apartment and a good Conad supermarket as well (one minute). Wander around the canals getting lost and you'll come across lovely squares and bakeries.
Ca' Masena is a perfect base from which to explore Venice.
It's position in the Dorsoduro area means you are about 20-25 mins walk from St Marks Square although the water bus stop is at the end of the street anyway if you didn't want to walk.
To be honest once you've been to St Marks you might not want to go back anyway - it's soooooooo busy!
The house is well appointed with all the usual amenities and there is a lovely courtyard in which you can have breakfast in the sun each morning. As per one of the other reviewers I will agree that the upstairs neighbour does watch TV very loudly at night but it didn't impact us as we were either out or shattered from the day and ready to sleep!!
Very convenient supermarket at bottom of street too for £4 bottles of wine & prosecco!
Suzette, the English owner, is very contactable should you need her and 'check in' with her representative at the nearby San Basilio water stop was efficient and easy.
We are spending lots of time exploring the Dorsoduro area, finding it to be less touristy and more authentic than the area around St Marks. This house makes it very easy to do that but with h a vaporetto stop right on our doorstep we are using them to explore further afield too.
PeggyGuggenheim museum was fab and we saw Vivaldi's Four Seasons performed one night in a church.
The perfect house to explore the real Venice. Peaceful and part of the local crowd!
