Certainly some people don't like Venice, but my wife and I do. We have been there many times and we just come back from another trip to the city of the Doges.
We had decided to rent for a whole week the Ca' Masena and we surely don't regret our choice.
The flat is perfectly situated in a small, narrow and more than quiet "calle" perpendicular to the Zattere, which is a very nice promenade along the Giudecca Canal in the Dorsoduro district. Ca' Masena is not big but is quite appropriate to couples that will find all that is needed, and even more: an agreeable living and dining room with a modern and complete hi-fi system (radio, CD, DVD and television, a large bedroom with a big bed and a bedding in excellent state, a wardrobe and a cupboard with drawers (two pieces of furniture that are so important for not having to leave your clothes in the suitcase, which occurred to us last year in another flat.) Bathroom and kitchen are very functional. We would have appreciated a toaster, but never mind, one cannot find everything everywhere…
If you decide to have all your meals in the apartment, no problem: Billa is next to your door (two minutes walking) and you will find in that supermarket all you need. If you prefer to eat outside, there are a few restaurants on the Zattere and, of course, many more in the city. For a special occasion, try Ristorante Riviera next to the apartment where we enjoyed one night a great moment of Venetian gastronomy.
I almost forgot to tell that the San Basilio Stop is in the immediate neighbourhood: very convenient for catching vaporetti.

For a week long, first time visit to Venice, I could not have asked for a better accommodation. Booking with the owner was straightforward and the property manager who met us at the vaporetto stop did a nice job of orienting us to the apartment and the neighborhood. The nearby conveniences - grocery store, post office, several restaurants, vaporreto stop - are steps away but the apartment itself is on a dead end calle which was quiet day and night. The apartment itself was recently renovated with comfortable furnishings, a nicely equipped galley kitchen and private courtyard. We found not being near tourist ground zero (San Marco) to be perfect as we were able on foot or vaporetto to quickly get to any destination without fighting the crowds. The only problems we encountered were some minor maintenance issues. E-mailing the property manager got no response, but when the owner became aware she had them addressed immediately. Again, the issues were minor and did not interfere with a delightful week. I highly recommend this property.
