Our family cannot wait to come back to Surrender. Janet was great, Curacao is a hidden gem and Surrender is gorgeous. Awesome diving and snorkeling right off the property.
If you have to visit Curaçao, I can’t imagine a quieter, more private, spacious, well stocked, comfy way to stay on the island. The open sea view from the back of the house and pool deck is glorious. The owner and caretaker are lovely people, very responsive and trustworthy. They are invested in your having a wonderful stay! The only items that are less than ideal, that I did not read anything about in advance of my visit, are the abandoned construction project right next door and the fact that there is a pretty strong current where the villa’s stone steps lead down into the sea. You can have a refreshing swim there but should be a confident, strong swimmer. Probably one of the nicest beaches on Curaçao happens to be a short walk from the villa or an instant car ride down the road to the parking lot within the gated grounds of the Kura Hulanda resort, in the same community as this villa cul de sac. The caretaker can suggest a few worthwhile nature walks off the beaten tourist path for your “to do” list. I give Surrender Villa five stars, but overall I’m not a big fan of Curaçao as a beach or cultural destination (although I can understand why scuba divers are attracted to the island). The beaches are really more like tiny coves, mostly rocky, and those with smooth sand get quickly overrun and can feel a bit artificial. The sea is ever beautiful and full of interesting creatures; so as long as you arrive knowing what to expect, and you focus more on sea and bird life, less on the lack of white sand beach strolls, privacy and space on a given beach, you should enjoy your time there. Willemstad does have its colorful Dutch buildings, but they house KFC, Subway, Footlocker, Levi’s, and rows of shops filled with the cheapest tourist junk, probably mass produced in China, that nobody wants or needs. That’s somewhat sad. The restaurants are decidedly mediocre and typically overpriced. So Surrender Villa gets five stars, but Curaçao gets two.
Surrender villa was one of the peaceful, quiet , clean and comfortable villas we have had the pleasure of experiencing. Even though the capacity is for 10 people, we were only a family of five. We thoroughly enjoyed the incomparable view, the cliff diving, fishing, and snorkeling right on the property. We rented a car so we were able to take a very short car ride out to nearby restaurants every night......literally less than 5 mins away..... I highly recommend driving to the playa Grandi for the incredible experience of swimming with the turtles. We also bought a freshly caught tuna there and grilled it back at the villa.... yum! I can’t say enough about this place..... Hynrich the property manager was also very helpful.....a perfect get away.... a true home away from home.
We had a wonderful family vacation at Villa Surrender! Janet and Hynrich were great to work with. The view is spectacular, the pool great for young children and the snorkeling and cliff jumping right at the property was fantastic! I highly recommend Villa Surrender.
Our 3 week stay at Surrender was amazing. While the initial drive to the property may feel a tad bit on the sketchy side, the home is well appointed, immaculate and beautiful! Safety was never of concern to us as the property is in a secure area and well lite. Much attention to detail was paid in the construction of this home from placement away from winds to fixtures and upkeep.
I have rented home in many other places with far less communication, etc. and these folks went out of their way to make sure our stay worked and worked well! We had some special requests and questions - all of which were answered in a timely way with good information.
The area surrounding the home (Westpunt) is remote from town, but we knew that going into this and that is what we were looking for. There is near zero light pollution near the home and the stars are night rival any planetarium experience I have ever seen. The ability to dive from a manicured cliff right into the ocean and snorkel or scuba dive made the experience even better.
While staying here we swam with sea turtles, made trips into Willemstad and many other areas of the island and experiences the Christofel park area, Shete Boka, etc. We also took a day trip from the airport to Aruba for lunch one day. We spent a good deal of time cooking in the gourmet kitchen which is well appointed and lacking almost nothing.
The house manager, Hynrich, is an amazing man and an asset to the owners of this property. He (as we did also) treated the home a though it was his own. No stone was unturned and the property is in perfect condition. Even an air conditioning unit that didn't work was replaced within 2 days of our being there. That may not sound like much - but you need to remember that we were on island time here and things don't always happen quickly! Hynrich gave us some great
recommendations of things to do, places to go, restaurants, etc.
The pool was beautiful, warm and well maintained.
Bring nothing for the home, it's all there already. Nice sheets, towels, beach towels, etc. Just remember plenty of sun screen and have a good time!
The sunsets speak for themselves and are impossible to miss!
