We stayed for 4 nights on a half board basis in a river view suite. Good things Our room was large and well appointed. Large bed with 2 bathrooms although weirdly only one with a toilet. Coffee and bottles of water provided. Restaurant provided innovative meals and a great breakfast buffet. Staff were all wonderful, friendly and helpful. Gave us loads of advice and help on transport and places to visit. Really easy to get to Porto and the vineyards from the local train station. Absolutely stunning views and scenery surrounding the hotel. Pool on the roof was beautiful. A half board menu needs to be changed daily for repeat guests. Throughout our stay there was no breakfast tea. They had run out. There were lots of other teas, green etc. But they just don't do the job at breakfast. We never had an apology for this and no one could be bothered to just pop to the local shop and buy some. The excuse was just that they hadn't arrived. Throughout our stay there was no breakfast tea. They had run out. There were lots of other teas, green etc. But they just don't do the job at breakfast. We never had an apology for this and no one could be bothered to just pop to the local shop and buy some. The excuse was just that they hadn't arrived.
The music tape playing in the main areas, bar, restaurant, reception, spa, pool, was the same throughout our stay. After the 1st day I knew what the next track would be. It must drive the staff bonkers, it certainly annoyed me.
You need daily vouchers and a room number to get pool towels, all seems overly restrictive. Just put towels out for guest's use.
Pool isn't heated and so very cold in September.
The gardeners do not visit the rooms enough. Our garden's lawn was long and very weedy which impacted on the view from our room.

Overall we had a really chilled stay and would come back.
