Just a little tinkle down the road from the country village Rothbury and you will stumble across the wee village of thropton with a little wonder of a hotel boasting Immaculate generous sized rooms! Serving up great food I would well recommend staying on the Saturday to indulge in the Sunday roast mmmmmmhhhhhhhh!

I stayed with three friends overnight - we were going to a wedding do. The place is lovely, the staff are very friendly and welcoming! The room was lovely and the breakfast was delicious! Especially for one of my friends who had a veggie breakfast and said it was the best one she has had! Guinness (the dog) is so cute! Will definitely be going back with my dog and my hubby!!

Great, attentive staff. Beautifully presented bacon and brie jacket potato with imaginative salad.
We walked along the river from Rothbury to Thropton, had a lovely lunch in the garden and then walked back. Perfect day in every way.

We visited for dinner. None of us finished our mains because they were huge: indeed the fish pie could easily have been shared between two. However we all still enjoyed desserts.

The ice creams were not all good. The lime and basil is not a particularly pleasant combination. The blackcurrant sorbet should not have been served: it was full of ice crystals, probably having been partially defrosted

Service was not without it's flaws. We had to wait 'ages' to be seated and then too long to get our bill

Spur of the moment decision to go for lunch on May Bank Holiday, having been there a few times before and never been disappointed. I booked in the morning and we had a lovely table by the window overlooking the valley. Food was excellent quality (and good sized portions!) and service very friendly and efficient - just as on previous visits. Will definitely keep going there.
