“Another great stay”
Reviewed 9 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Our second visit and just as good as we remembered it being last year, superb accommodation and location and a great place to escape the election! Gail makes you feel very welcome and there are some lovely touches that make this a great place to stay. Plenty of wildlife on the doorstep- a Heron visited twice and as the week went by we were delighted to see some gosling families despite being an earlier visit this time.

This time we visited and would recommend the radar museum at Neatished, Fairhaven garden, Hoveton Hall Garden and most superb East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden.

Hope to return next year.

“Brilliant break”
Reviewed 15 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Having stayed in Horning previously, we decided to give Heron Cottage a try this year as an 80th Birthday treat / surprise for my mother in law.
We travelled as a group of 6 and arrived at the cottage to be met by Gail who welcomed us to the cottage and it felt just like home from home.
Gail showed us around the cottage and allowed us to settle in before showing us more a little later that first day.
The welcoming trays were great and the cream tea was very well received after our journey down from Sheffield.
We took on the hire of Reed Bunting for the week and were well impressed by the facilities on board, the tuition given by Ken was spot on and nothing left out. All the safety issues and everything on board was carefully explained and shown and then Ken took us down and out onto the river to show how the stern and bow thrusters worked and made the craft so manageable and easy to control.
Gail had kindly placed a birthday card and present for my mother in laws birthday at the end of our week and was such a kind and thoughtful gesture but both Gail and Ken are very friendly and welcoming when you arrive at the cottage.
The venue is ideal and allows easy access out onto the river when on board Reed Bunting, the gardens stretch out and through to the riverbank and afford lovely views over the water to enjoy a cup of tea or a cool glass of wine to watch the sunset in the evening.
Wildlife is abundant and local Mallard will come onto the decking to be fed, one male actually came to the patio doors and could be fed from my hand.
Herons are also resident locally and make appearances patrolling on the decking to welcome visitors to Heron Cottage.
The cottage is well furnished and very comfortable and warm, a well fitted and kitted out dining kitchen provides a nice area for family meals and the bedrooms are all clean, tidy, well furnished with very comfortable beds.
The upstairs bathroom is large and has a shower over, becomes very warm when the heater is turned on which helps dry you out a bit more.
The downstairs toilet and shower is also very serviceable and there are toiletries and big white fluffy towels in both the get dried with after a shower or bath.
The location is quiet and at night other than an occasional vehicle passing along the top road a good nights sleep is assured for guests wanting a nice relaxing holiday.
It is a short walk either way from the cottage along the road to either Horning and the village pubs, restaurants and facilities or a short walk in the opposite direction to the Ferry Inn and the local chip shop.
The decking at the cottage is well presented with a range of patio furniture and chairs to use and is a nice area to relax on and chill out on after a good day navigating the waterways of the broads on Reed Bunting.
There are a selection of games in the cottage and a range of brochures and leaflets to advertise local attractions etc.
We were able to travel as far as Coltishall, Ludham, Acle Bridge and return on various days and there is a fridge on board together with toilet so it makes it very easy to load up a good days picnic and find a nice sunny staithe or broad to moor up at.
The break was great and we were able to relax and recharge our batteries and enjoy simply messing about on the river.
Thanks Gail and Ken for a great break, thanks for sending us the item we left as we got it this morning.
We would definitely recommend Heron Cottage as I already have been doing back at work and will be returning to spend some more time at Heron Cottage.
Many Thanks.

“A great family holiday in superb accommodation on the Norfolk Broads.”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We recently spent a lovely week at Heron Cottage. It is not only a beautiful cottage but is very clean and well equipped. Gail was there to meet us on our arrival, she is such a lovely, friendly person and she made us feel very welcome (the scones, jam, clotted cream, tea, coffee and milk were much appreciated). We rented the 'Fearless Imp' cruiser for the week which I would highly recommend. We used it nearly every day - it was great being able to just hop on of an evening and motor up and down the broads. I have to say that we were all glad to have internet access as it isn't always something available with holiday lets. Also, the phone coverage is always bad in Horning and most of the time myself and other family members didn't have a phone signal so it was handy to have the pay phone in the cottage although it is expensive so better to give friends/family the number so they can ring you back. We know Horning quite well and the best places to eat so would highly recommend the Recruiting Sergeant in Coltishall, The Ship Inn in South Walsham and Woodforde's Brewery in Woodbastwick - we always make a point of trying to visit a couple of them.

“Wonderful week with wildfowl on the doorstep”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

With ducks literally on the doorstep, at the water's edge, with plenty more wildfowl for company Heron Cottage is a delight. It was ideal for my parents, one with walking difficulty. Gail has a really helpful list of optional extras for ease of using the bathroom etc and a fantastic access statement . The cottage is beautifully presented, with a great deal of attention, with lovely extras such as the welcome gift surprise. It feels like a real home with friendly hosts The location is brilliant to trip around, we took the boat trip from Horning, again quite accessible, and visited some National Trust properties plus it's easy to get to wildlife sites and the coast. Horning itself has some good pubs for eating and places to sit and watch the world go by on the river. We didn't hire the day boat but would be tempted another time, we are not surprised about it's popularity, it is well-deserved. If you do go please buy the special duck food and feed the feathered neighbours!

“A Norfolk haven providing perfect peace and tranquility”
Reviewed 3 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We have stayed at Heron Cottage for the last 2 years with our daughter and son-in-law. It is an excellent holiday base in a lovely location, with excellent facilities & every home comfort you could wish for. Gail and Ken are perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble. They provide lots of little extras making your holiday very special. It has been lovely to be able to see the Broads at different times of the year e.g. autumn and summer. We have been visiting the Broads for many years and previously owned a boat on which we had many happy holidays. Now we are older booking Heron Cottage with use of the day boat is the best of both worlds! You always have a guaranteed mooring space outside the cottage, so when it's busy you can be sure of a mooring spot. In June we even saw 2 Kingfishers a very special sighting! There a local shops, pubs and places to eat nearby.
