Had Easter Sunday lunch here with a group of 6 friends. Course after course, after course, was served - all freshly made by momma in the kitchen while papa served the dishes. Most ingredients are grown in their gardens and greenhouse and they even hunt, fish or breed their own meat! Wonderful meal!

My wife and I ate here recently as part of a large tour group of 50 people. The food, drink, atmosphere and staff were all great.

The food & drink: We were served several courses, each thoughtfully planned and executed. Typical meat and cheese plate (mozzarella from Jersey cows, not buffalo - so it is a bit "tighter" in texture), an assortment of appetizers ranging from grilled zucchini, baked mash potatoes, green bean salad, barley salad, and much more. The pasta dish was very good, not too heavy which is always welcome when eating so much food! Fresh tomatoes were especially tasty. Steak and fingerling potatoes for secundi and a light cake w/ fruit for dessert. All the while, their own grown red wine (which wasn't as cutting as other reds from around the volcano) and some white falanghina from a neighboring town flowed freely.

The atmosphere: This property is absolutely beautiful with a beautiful vista of Mount Vesuvius (especially at dusk). The structure itself is build around the cave, making it a rather unique place to eat. As we sat and ate, many Italian families came in (dressed to the 9's) for special functions. This is how you know you've found a good place to dine, when you see lots of locals!

The staff: The restaurateur played host to our event for the evening and was a delight. He explained (in English) his vision for the place, as well as what each course was and where it came from. The waitstaff were all friendly and attentive.

I look forward to returning to Agriturismo La Grotta with a smaller group to have a more intimate evening!
