“History revisited”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

First time visiting Corregidor and it was well worth it, both for what I learned about the events of World War II and Filipino history in general. Who knew they had such a history of having to fight for their independence - even from the US!

Tour guide was excellent and the time spent at each photo stop was more than adequate. Lunch was delightful, especially from the tables on the balcony overlooking the ocean with the wind blowing. Which reminds me - bring a hat and plenty of water! Very hot even in the shade.

Visit is well worth getting off the beaten track for -

“A very history-filled day”
Reviewed 2 November 2012

Went here for the 1st time last month for our org's teambuilding. We took the corregidor adventure games and it was really fun. Highly recommended if your company is thinking of an adventure-history-touristy attractive-filled teambuilding. Left Manila at exactly 8am via ferry (abt 1hr15mins ferry ride). The activities (ala Amazing Race) is only for a little over 2 hours so basically it's over just before lunchtime. After lunch, there is a round-the-island tour with a well-informed English-speaking guide. Ferry left for Manila at 245pm or just about. Back in Manila past 4pm. Thanks to the highly-organized Sun Cruises staff, two thumbs up!

“Tiring, but well-worth it”
Reviewed 1 November 2012

This was our first time to visit Corregidor Island. The tour went pretty much on schedule. When we got to the ferry station, all our papers were ready, including ferry and bus seats. After a little over an hour in the ferry, we arrived in Corregidor. The tour buses (or tramvias) were all lined up and properly numbered. Our tour guide Rowena was very knowledgeable about the island's history and she was quite entertaining as well. The pace can be hectic, with short 5 - 7 minute stops in certain areas, not really enough to explore. Do take the light and sound show at the Malinta Tunnel. This was a major highlight of the tour and I don't understand why the price for this show is not included in the package. (No problem though, as you can purchase tickets from the tour guide.) It felt eerie being in the dark tunnel, hearing the voices of Pres. Quezon, Gen. MacArthur and recordings of actual bombings. The tour takes you to the different interesting areas of the island. Lots of beautiful photo opportunities here.

The package includes buffet lunch which consisted of rice, vegetables, a pasta dish, 2 entrees, soup, salad and dessert. We brought our own snacks and bottled water to carry around. There are plenty washrooms around the island.

Best to go on this tour in the cooler months. There is a lot of walking involved and the tour hours are from 9:30 am to 2 pm, which can be very hot. There are umbrellas available in each bus. As mentioned earlier, I would recommend bring your own snacks and water.

It would be nice if the tour can be extended for another 1 - 1/2 hours so as to give the tourists more time to explore each site.

“A Great Getaway That's Close to the Metro”

Cooregidor Island can be accessed through daily tours by Sun Cruises. The ferry ride takes around 40-60 minutes.

The Good:
- Tour is well coordinated
- Buffet lunch included in package

The Bad:
- Somewhat rushed (tour takes around 4-5 hours excluding lunch and the Malinta tunnel light show)
- Buffet lunch is nothing special
- Extra Php 150 for the Malinta light and sound show, which is pretty boring

We purchased the Overnight Package by Sun Cruises for Php 2,499. The only way you can go around Corregidor island is by availing of one of their packaged “Optional Activities” for a fee. Everything, from trekking to going to the sunset/sunrise viewing point, has a corresponding fee. And they don't have bike rentals, contrary to the photos on their brochure.

So is it worth staying the night in Corregidor? If you don’t mind paying a little extra (and then some) to further explore the island, then staying the night will be a good idea. But if you’re on a budget (like us), I suggest to forego the overnight stay. The day tour pretty much covers everything (though a bit rushed) and there’s not much walking done to leave you without energy. Also, with the food being as expensive (and tasteless) as it is, you’re likely to spend more than the package you paid for to stay the night.
