Had been told to come here by just about everyone we met in Penzance, thought it wouldn't fit into our tight schedule but ended up at a loose end one lunchtime and popped in. We were lucky it was early as the place filled up pretty quickly after we got there, but the charming barmaid maintained a friendly and efficient front throughout. The atmosphere is very simple old-school pub, but clean and cheerful with comfortable seating and not too cramped. Food was excellent, beer also very good indeed. I had a simple fish and chips with Ling, brilliantly light batter and perfectly cooked fish with a splendidly chunky tartar sauce, also sampled a wonderful bisque with crunchy bread and rouille, all truly excellent. Next time we're nearby we'll be booking in for dinner and settling down for a full-on feast. Wonderful.

The first thing I would advise is book a table, we made the mistake of not booking for a second visit while on holiday and couldn't get a table, this after a quiet night on our first visit.
The staff were fantastic and friendly giving us time to decide what we wanted even though the menu is small - always a good sign. The food was fantastic, there's not really much more to say - give it a go, if you can get a table!

First visit after a couple of years of looking longingly at the menu but deciding the kids were too young and picky to enjoy but 2016 was our year. The best meal of our holiday without a doubt. Lovely ambiance - all round perfect. probably the most expensive meal of the holiday too but worth it for the treat,

Style-wise this is a very simple, traditional pub - but with a high-end bar and a fantastic local seafood menu. We booked for New Years Eve and there was a set 5-course menu: 3 seafood courses, a cheese course and dessert. There were some really unusual combinations of flavours, such as squid pickled in red wine with marinated mackerel and home cured gravalax, all exquisitely presented. Service was personable and efficient and because I don't eat meat, the jus in the turbot main course was changed for me. It's not cheap - but it's very reasonable value for the quality and innovations well worth the money. We'd definitely visit again.
