First and foremost, I have had the privilege of visiting Maasai Simba Camp in August 2015. Since we were a group of 20 international students conducting a research project in the Amboseli Ecosystem we decided to spend a week in an authentic Maasai camp, thus we booked a week in this fantastic 'wild home'. And what a great surprise!

This place is absolutely special. It's surrounded by exuberant nature, with some great amenities and managed/staffed by lovely locals, who certainly will make you feel like being part of a big Maasai family. Moreover, I can assure that corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability as well as a real sense of kindness are some of the main pillars of this remarkable Maasai Camp.

For instance, we witnessed how Simba Camp takes care of the locals living in the area by financing some infrastructure projects such as a health center, a local school and a clean water plan for the nearby village. Without doubt these are some of its greatest achievements!

Lastly, I would like to encourage you to try out some of the amazing outdoor activities they have to offer. Luckily, we have had the chance to experience a unique sunrise walking safari lead by the Maasai warriors (you will spot a wide range of African Savanna animals), a bush breakfast somewhere in the Chyulu Hills and a stunning sunset waking in order to reach some hills close by, and thus to contemplate the beautiful scenery with Mount Kilimanjaro as a backdrop.

In short, if you are thinking of making a trip to an authentic place in the Amboseli Ecosystem, then I strongly recommend Maasai Simba Camp as your first option. I swear you won't regret the decision!

THUMBS UP FOR MAASAI SIMBA CAMP & ITS INCREDIBLE STAFF!

We stayed for two days in a cottage at the Simba camp. In that short time we had two walks (a dusk walk which took in meeting some Maasi locals) and a morning walk [8km with Giraffes, lots of Zebras, lots of birs etc from 6.30am-9am. We also had one hour group meetings with a) the women of the Maasai and b) the male elders of the Maasai. These were fascinating sessions. Two of the elders were over 90 years old and they stories they told and the insights into the Maasai culture were brilliant. You will get out of it what you put in - i.e. if you ask the right questions [we had a good group with us from a few nations] then you will find out a lot of interesting stuff. We took pictures and video and had a wonderful time. The camp is the middle of the countryside with no cellphone signal so great to get away from the connected world. The Maasai are going through a big change to their largely untouched way of life. Their children for the first time are going to school outside the community and 'Western' ways are beginning to influence the way they live - especially the internet and social media. It's tough to agree that it's a good thing by the way - the 90+ year old main elder talked about his six wives and fifty two children and a community that looks after its own, has a deep resepect for it's elders and until recently ate from the land with minimal impact from chemicals or pesticides. There are about 1m Maasai increasingly being drawn into the cities for work and you can see their culture being in danger of erosion. Simba Camp does an excellent job of sharing their cultiure without pressured selling [you can of course buy some beadwork but it's very nicely done] and you do feel like you are a guest rather than a tourist. It was a very special way to spend new year. Very recommended for a few days escape and exposure to a culture that sadly I think won't be the same in a couple of decades time [but secretly I hope it does].

Room tip: The cottages are fine - no electricity other than the two light bulbs. The team will charge your stuff for you.

Of all the safari tour packages available online, I decided to book Maasai Simba Camp in Kenya and I had no regrets at all!

Kakutah the owner, and his brother together with all their staff were so friendly, so accomodating and made me feel secured and safe despite I stayed alone in the camp for 2 nights. Their chef prepared and cooked dishes for me (that came with the entire package I availed), in which ingredients were freshly sourced from their own farm at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. I loved the juicy vegetables and pasta and almost everything!

I met and conversed with the Maasai elders -both men and women, including Kakutah's mother. Together with two guides, I had morning walks within their vast camp and i was able to take photos of giraffes, gazelles, kudu, exotic birds common in Kenya, and other animals roaming freely in the wild for 2 days. They toured me to the community people and was able to meet local men and women even kids from their tribe. I was accompanied entire day to Amboseli National Park which I enjoyed immensely. It was an experience I would not find in any travel books or magazines. Truly an authentic Maasai experience in Kenya!

I just wish they'll update and improve the toilet and shower and the rooms, plus to provide wifi access in the rooms and the rest of the areas of the camp as it's very essential to go online anytime. Other than those, it was great experience!

Room tip: Send email to Kakutah if you have concerns on food (if you're vegetarian or with food allergy).

The Maasai Simba Camp has a true and natural environment and the staff go beyond their expectations to make one feel really appreciated personally. What's more amazing than having your meal in a well secured bush with Maasai morans in your company!! Kakuta treats each and every guest with all the attention they require and goes out of his way to make sure their stay is memorable. You will not be disappointed to visit Maasai Simba Camp, the owner (Kakuta) is doing a splendid work too for the local communities which is very commendable!! You visit the first time and you will find a thousand excuses to go back!!!!

We, as a group of 20 students, spent seven nights at Maasai Simba Camp and have only good things to say. This is a wonderful camp, friendly managers and staff to greet you everyday with coffee and hot chocolate as an early morning call. It offers many and varied activities, one of them is the bush breakfast – a fantastic, unique experience. The usual big breakfast tasted hundred times better with a breathtaking scenery. Additionally, I also had a chance to explore Chyulu hills in order to see the amazing sunset from a hilltop overlooking the plains with our attentive chief of the warriors, Kwenia. Not forgetting, our helpful and knowledgeable guide, Tom, on the safari drives.

It has fantastic activities but what’s more the room was immaculate and very comfortable - didn't have a problem with bugs or mosquitoes in the room at all. Excellent hot shower, although it took almost ten minutes for the hot water to warm up but it was worth it. The food was delicious with good vegetarian options. Cannot wait to return!
