I like the hotel property, restaurant and staff. But, the internet is a big disappointment. Here for business for a long time and we struggle with the often unavailable and always slow internet. When the front desk is contacted they are nice but the problem is never resolved.

I stayed in this hotel for three whole months from May till July 2014. My stay was for business as is the case for a good half of the guests here.

The bottom line is that if you HAVE TO stay in Nova Iguacu, the Mercure is clearly the best deal.

Pros:
The hotel is relatively new and generally speaking well taken care of.
The breakfast buffet is very nice
the beds are comfortable
The staff is polite and helpfull and over half of them speak decent english

Cons:
The hotel is noisy due to its location. Although this cannot be helped, it would have been better if the windows were double glazed and if the window panes actually closed (they leave a 1cm gap at all times...)
Internet connection is a disaster. For a business traveler, this is as important as your bed. The connection was intermittent, slow and at some times, inexistent for entire days. I complained on numerous occasions to the reception but to no avail. I wrote to the manager (a Mr. Christian Yvonne who I see is responding in all comments below) but he didn't answer to me...

I will be returning to the same hotel for another long stay and hope to see some improvement...

Nice hotel, central location close to shopping and nova iguacu down town. Nice people. Food ok, fitness center ok. Quality versus cost ratio ok.
A few negative points:
-when I asked for a glass of wine, they did not have any wine
-avoid top high levels floors for noise
-absence of 2 chairs in double rooms making difficult to eat in rooms for 2 persons (bed and table fixed)

Room tip: See above

Staying at this hotel at the moment. The breakfast is pretty good and other meals are good in general, but limited choices. There is a shopping mall across the bridge where you can get most things you need while travelling. The gas station near by rarely has gas but does offer items similar to a convenience store.

Room tip: Always ask for a discount. High floors lose Wi-Fi occasionally but does have ethernet jack.
