Get some Andrew´s Salts before you go to this place! Ask for a table in a "cueva" and get ready for a quite Spanish meal: lots of food, really good meat and earthy wine. I have been there several times, and it never gets you down. I truly recommend dishes like 'judiones con codorniz' (broad white beans with quail), 'picadillo de chorizo' (difficult to translate, kind of minced chorizo meat with spices) and, above all, 'villagodio de buey' (ox fillets) to cook on a hot plate. Finish with a nice pudding and some traditional liquors like Patxaran or Orujo de hierbas. Then find a place for a nap!

The best thing I've had here is the Picadillo... The place is an authentic old-school restaurant, with pictures of bullfighters on the walls and such. Not bad for lunch.

This place had quite a few locals drinking on the terrace which is is generally a good sign. I stopped here driving north to get the Bilbao Portsmouth ferry. The menu offers plenty to choose from. I had an ensalada mixta, half carafe of red wine, lamb chops, chocolate ice cream and coffee. Quirky, pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. The owner was friendly and attentive and the service was quick. The bill came to just over 30 euros, a bit expensive for what is was, but that has been my experience of eating in Spain this summer.

Tucked away at the back of El Molar. If it is too hot you can eat in the caves! On an evening, dining on the terrace is very pleasant.
Food is not fine dining, but very edible!
