Description: Relaxed and informal. Some communal dining and some smaller tables. We are a butcher using classic methods from British and European sales to produce our own cured meats. We also take influences from American BBQ to produce well cooked smoked meats. We make everything possible ourselves. We make Pastrami for the Reubens, Franks for the dogs. We are very pleased with our award winning burgers. Be sure to ask what the secret is to a great burger (by the way there is no secret just use great dry aged Devon beef with salt and pepper).

Popped in for a pre-christmas late breakfast. Parked at Topsham Quay pay and display car park and walked the short distance. I've walked past this place several times but had never ventured in as doesn't look much from the roadside. Inside is surprisingly large with plenty of seating although most tables appeared reserved for lunch so may be worth phoning to check availability. Good choice of breakfast dishes which are available until around 12 midday. Food was good although not cheap once coffee was ordered. This is a nice place with a good selection of other dishes available and very friendly staff. I will visit again

Thank you very much for your feedback about Pig and Pallet. We take all comments on board and they are discussed with the team.

We have a policy not to respond to individual reviews and comments on Trip Advisor. If this is a problem for you we are really sorry and get in touch or pop back in and we can chat.

If we get anything wrong in our service or quality we will put it right and apologise, but if you don't like the style and philosophy of Pig and Pallet then there are many other places to eat in an environment where you will feel more relaxed and comfortable, as will we. Not every place is the same and this is what makes independent businesses so great and exciting.

If you had a problem and you mentioned it at the restaurant we would have explained, but if this is the first time you are telling us about it then here are some common observations, which often get left to Trip Advisor to complain about.

The chicken is not undercooked it is smoked and brined and this is what makes it look pink, just like the pork. If you think some of the food tastes of chemicals it will be because we cook it on wood so it is properly smoked. This is not as common as you would think for people selling smoked food but we believe it should be cooked on wood just like they do in the USA. We are really sorry if you don't like this but this is what we are looking for in our smoked BBQ food.

If you go to any diner or BBQ joint in America, you will see the burger baskets. That’s what they use and that’s what we use. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives programme on Food Network (Chanel 41), is where we get some of our inspiration from.

We aim to make the most amazing food from great high welfare produce, if we fall short then please tell us.

Our service is relaxed and friendly and inclusive, if we fall short then tell us.

We aim to serve you as quick as possible but we do make everything in house so it's not always fast food quick, if you think we are too slow please tell us.

Our first core value as a business is to be nice, if you meet anyone of our team and they are not nice please tell us. If we have customers who are not nice feel free to tell them!

I hope you liked your visit to Pig and Pallet and you get what we are about, but please be nice and have fun.

Second visit, first one I was disappointed with but always give somewhere a second chance.
I Wish I hadn’t.
I attended a family group meal.
We were only allowed to pick from the xmas menu (for a birthday) and pre ordered. Selection agreed ,difficult due to allergy and very narrow menu choice (bread in every meal option and not allowed to choose from the main menu), but they were helpful over the phone and offered extra fries instead. Come the meal this was forgotten despite both email confirmation and telephone calls. This led on to the same issue with the main. Had this been a hidden allergy ingredient I dread to think the consequences. The food was very average and £30 for a burger meal was not value. All four I attended with would not return even if it was given away.

Tl;dr: £11.50 for a dry baguette after 45 mins is just not good enough.

Saga:

I came here a year ago and wrote a partly critical review because although everything else was good my Reuben was disappointing and expensive.

The owner replied to me saying they’d changed the Reuben and I could come back for a free one. Whilst I appreciated the free offer, I didn’t really want to go back on that basis so paid and didn’t mention the review.

Anyway, I ordered a Reuben today and, around an hour later, when it arrived, just above room temperature with once melted but with congealed cheese, served on <<A DRY BAGUETTE!!!!>> that was toasted a bit so as to provide a ton of dry white bread to the mix...

I was not exactly over the moon.

Some others eating with me had the same and opted to dispense with the bread and eat the filling (which is great) with the fries which kind of worked but I was hungry so I ate my stale bread.

Fries were good. Coleslaw ok but a bit sad.

I may go back but won’t bother to try the Reuben again since lots of other stuff seems nicer.

Maybe the bread went dry because it was left out ages. Would explain why we waited so long...

Terrific service appalling food and unbearably noisy. This wasn't the place for a quiet meal for two on a Saturday evening. All but two of the tables accommodated from 8 to about 20 diners and large parties were the order of the day. A shared starter of mixed barbecued meats was acceptable - though the pork ribs were very dry. But for mains we ordered one medium/well burger and one medium/rare - beth were equally dry and overcooked, all but inedible. Sorry folks, but, however delightful and helpful the waiter and waitress, it's about the food and we won't be returning.
