“Unusual place”
Review of Pig and Pallet

Pig and Pallet
Ranked #3 of 21 Restaurants in Topsham
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$7 - US$69
Description: Relaxed and informal. Some communal dining and some smaller tables. We are a butcher using classic methods from British and European sales to produce our own cured meats. We also take influences from American BBQ to produce well cooked smoked meats. We make everything possible ourselves. We make Pastrami for the Reubens, Franks for the dogs. We are very pleased with our award winning burgers. Be sure to ask what the secret is to a great burger (by the way there is no secret just use great dry aged Devon beef with salt and pepper).

Turned up on the off chance and was surprised to discover this brilliant place. You should not miss this opportunity to see an original idea. Service was very good and the food was excellent but the main attraction is the decor and the unusual background. Highly recommended

Thank you very much for your feedback about Pig and Pallet. We take all comments on board and they are discussed with the team.

We have a policy not to respond to individual reviews and comments on Trip Advisor. If this is a problem for you we are really sorry and get in touch or pop back in and we can chat.

If we get anything wrong in our service or quality we will put it right and apologise, but if you don't like the style and philosophy of Pig and Pallet then there are many other places to eat in an environment where you will feel more relaxed and comfortable, as will we. Not every place is the same and this is what makes independent businesses so great and exciting.

If you had a problem and you mentioned it at the restaurant we would have explained, but if this is the first time you are telling us about it then here are some common observations, which often get left to Trip Advisor to complain about.

The chicken is not undercooked it is smoked and brined and this is what makes it look pink, just like the pork. If you think some of the food tastes of chemicals it will be because we cook it on wood so it is properly smoked. This is not as common as you would think for people selling smoked food but we believe it should be cooked on wood just like they do in the USA. We are really sorry if you don't like this but this is what we are looking for in our smoked BBQ food.

If you go to any diner or BBQ joint in America, you will see the burger baskets. That’s what they use and that’s what we use. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives programme on Food Network (Chanel 41), is where we get some of our inspiration from.

We aim to make the most amazing food from great high welfare produce, if we fall short then please tell us.

Our service is relaxed and friendly and inclusive, if we fall short then tell us.

We aim to serve you as quick as possible but we do make everything in house so it's not always fast food quick, if you think we are too slow please tell us.

Our first core value as a business is to be nice, if you meet anyone of our team and they are not nice please tell us. If we have customers who are not nice feel free to tell them!

I hope you liked your visit to Pig and Pallet and you get what we are about, but please be nice and have fun.

Had a quick evening meal here. Very friendly and welcoming staff and a really low key relaxed atmosphere.

Great range of beers. Food delicious. And a great deli so you can take home a locally produced item for loved ones.

On a recent visit to Topsham we stayed very close to this quirky Bistro/Café/Bar. It is something else located in an old dockside warehouse with a very rustic interior made from yes old pallets and featuring mostly meaty dishes and despite being over 70 we just loved our meal. The Chorizo Mac and Cheese with French fries was wonderful and my wife enjoyed a lovely glass of House wine. The staff were attentive and great fun. We would love to visit this eating house again.

Wow...what a terrific find!

Melt-in-the-mouth barbeque in simple, rustic surroundings - with an atmosphere true to it's Devon heritage. The Pig and Pallet is the perfect food answer for permanently hungry teens (and everyone else) and 'Big Jim's' beer and bourbon sauce takes steak and sausage to a whole other level. Can't wait until we can buy the sauce to take home when we next visit :)
