The hotel room was clean and comfortable and the hotel was in a perfect location for the old town and port. The only reason we have given the hotel a 3 is because we didn’t find the staff particularly helpful or friendly (except one of the young men who stored our bags and suggested places we could go for breakfast). We arrived at 6.45am off the overnight train from Halifax and although we could drop our bags at the hotel we could not check in until 4pm and the hotel were inflexible on this. We wandered around Quebec all day and made the most of it as it’s a beautiful place but by 4pm we were exhausted. Fellow travellers who had arrived with us were told they couldn’t check in until 5pm as they had booked through a third party (Expedia in this case). Luckily we had booked through our travel agent so we could book in at 4. Just be aware of this is you arrive on an early flight or on the overnight train.

Bonjour NorfolkClare,

Thank you for taking time to share your opinion.

For your information, as in most hotels in Quebec city, check-in starts at 4pm on arrival day. You can, however, arrive early – from 1pm – to enjoy the hotel facilities. In the event where your is available before 4pm, we’ll be pleased to hand you the keys as soon as possible.

We hope you enjoyed your stay at Hotel Palace Royal.

Have a nice day!

The minute we walked into this hotel we were overcome with the smell of chlorine. The lady at the front desk was not very helpful, but we got to our room alright. The rooms were nice enough, but the rooms smelled overwhelmingly like chlorine and it started to give me a headache. We ordered pizza's from room service and they were all undercooked and in inedible. It's a shame that the owners of this hotel have allowed a pool to hold the occupants hostage. I get it, there's a pool, but I assumed the hotelier would have ensured adequate ventilation of the fumes, but they have not. The hotel façade and interior is very nice and it's located in a really great spot, but the poor room service and the smell of the pool both ruined it for me. I couldn't wait to leave.

Bonjour E M,

Since we have an indoor pool, it is not the same reality as an outdoor pool. When our team makes adjustments on water quality, it is normal to temporary notice a smell of chlorine.

It is not the same relaity as a residential outdoor pool.

Stayed here with 2 others in a double room, and had a lovely time.

Only stayed one night, but we had lots and lots of room and absolutely loved the location.
Staff were friendly, and the food at the restaurant was pretty good.

It was so close to Rue St. Jean, and maybe 10 minutes walking to get to Chateau Frontenac.

We stayed here on a recent trip to Quebec. The location is really excellent, half a block from the old city walls. The mattresses were really comfortable, and the hot tub was nice after a day of activities. Maybe the rooms could use a bit of a refresh, but they aren't worn or in bad condition.. its more a personal preference. Staff were excellent.

We- 3 families, 13 people- stayed for 3 nights at Palace Royal in mid August. We liked everything about this Hotel including the customer service, the room services, interior design, location and other amenities. Having the swimming pool right at the center of the building was a great convenience for us who could just sit in the balcony and watch the kids play in the pool. I loved the design and decorations of the building and throughout the hotel. The only negative point which became an issue for a senior in our group was the smell of the chlorine coming from the pool and we could smell it in our rooms if we opened the balcony doors. 2 families in our group had no problem with it but for the 3rd family with the senior we had to change their room to another room with a street view. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and really liked the hotel and surrounding area.
