This is a family business now being run by the 2nd and 3rd generation. The well-maintained 1845 house is most impressive. Our room was in the attic: three flights up the somewhat slippery spiral staircase. This room is best for the sure-footed! We loved the room. It was really big and elegant. Breakfast is included if you stay more than two nights. It was a treat: delicate glasses of yogurt and granola and house-made muffins. It's not self-serve though, so expect to spend time being waited on.
The location of the hotel is excellent. Chateau Frontenac is a few blocks away in one direction and Grand Allee (outside the wall) is a few blocks away in the other direction.
The hospitality was most touching: You're hot? Here are bottles of water; you're tired? Here's a cup of tea. You're going to miss breakfast? Here's a bag of bars, fruit and home-made divinity. It's raining? Here are umbrellas.
We would highly recommend this hotel!

What a wonderful find. Perfectly located steps from the Citadel and minutes walk from Place d'Armes and the magical lower town. The owners were gracious hosts, eager to accommodate. Plus, it has an upscale Thai/Vietnamese associated with the hotel. I highly recommend a stay at La Chouette.

Room Tip: I stayed on the first floor, easy in - easy out.

My family of five decided to start planning a long weekend trip to Winter Carnival a few months before it started. We were delighted to land two affordable rooms in the conveniently located Auberge La Chouette, especially since it happened to be the coldest weekend of the winter so far! We had a good continental breakfast (nothing cooked) onsite each day, and found ourselves a 5-10 minute walk south towards the Chateau Frontenac and the heart of Old Quebec and a few hundred meters walk north to the ice palace and the entrance to Winter Carnival activities. The staff was helpful to assist with concierge-type requests (printing boarding passes, exploring spa options nearby, leaving a code and key for our late arrival, etc), and at least one of them spoke very good English. We stayed in the spacious rooms 9 & 10 which were comfortable, and wifi was adequate. We did not try the Southeast Asian-themed restaurant downstairs for dinner, but heard good reports about the food. Overall, a great value and location to explore Old Quebec City.

Room Tip: Rooms 9 & 10 are quiet and away from the street. Choose 9 if you prefer a standup shower (vs a large tub with handheld shower in 10).

Definitely worth a look. Friendly staff. Try the restaurant even if you don't stay there. Authentic Cambodian, Vietnamese, Thai food. Located right beside the main wall of the historic fort. Super close to all historic sites, museums, etc.

What a find this hotel is. The location can't be beat with parking (paid) close by, the number 21 bus which loops the Old Town ($2) right at the door, easy walking to everything, and best of all directly next to the wall and gate so you can always find your way back easily. Rooms are large, clean and full of character. We had room 7 at the very top in the attic and it was enormous with 2 queen beds, table, huge bathroom - to be honest I think they should put a kitchenette in here because there is so much room. My only complaint would be that the carpet needs replacing, it was old and stained. The breakfast supplied was much better than expected for a continental breakfast and the Thai restaurant onsite was excellent and caters for gluten free. Highly recommended, wish we could stay longer.

Room Tip: No elevator only stairs so keep that in mind.
