It's true about the beds - they're fantastic. Our room (#412) was clean and spacious, with several versions of the "LOVE" monogram on the walls. High ceilings, fee wi-fi and a Tassimo machine. The rooms, lobby and restaurant have character and the staff is young, friendly and helpful. Great location for walking Old Montreal.

This 1870 former bank headquarters building in the heart of Old Montreal (Vieux-Montréal) has been extensively refurbished into a boutique hotel (only 56-rooms). It is stuffed to the brim with contemporary art from the collection of it's owner Georges Marciano, founder of the Guess Jeans empire, who lives in the penthouse on the 5th floor of the hotel. Fortunately much of the architectural character of the building has been left intact throughout both the exterior and interior.

As such, each room has it's own distinctive configuration and décor with high ceilings and ample space which makes it fun and a bit quirky. The halls are filled with more art that give you the impression of walking through a museum gallery as you travel to your room. There are all the usual modern conveniences present including an in-room safe if you need it and free wifi that worked quite well. The rooms were clean and all-in-all comfortable.

Check-in was quick and friendly with the valet helping us get to the desk and the car taken care of. Be aware that parking is a premium (as I suppose is true in most modern urban cities). However at $28.50CDN per night it did seem a bit overpriced but few other options exist in the area and it does allow in/out privileges (although most of what you will want to see is very walkable in the neighborhood). One other odd occurrence was that the bellman insisted on taking our bags to our room on the cart even though we were happy to do it ourselves. Something about "protecting the art"on the walls.

Our hotel rate, which was fairly reasonable considering the hotel's location and the USD vs. CDN conversion rate, also included breakfast. The dining room is a very lovely space with friendly staff and a wonderful, full buffet that will definitely fill you up for a full day of touring.

The location is perfect for sight-seeing in the old section with the magnificent Cathedral only about 5 minutes away. Also, it's a short walk to 2 different subway stations should you wish to venture out further (Station Place-d'Armes and Station Square-Victoria on the orange line).

In summary, if you are looking for a different hotel experience from the typical chain hotels, a very convenient location, and a well-appointed place to stay, this is a great choice.

This was one of the best stays ever, and I have been traveling a lot in the last 25 years!

Rook was fantastic, excellent art everywhere, very nice breakfast and without the soggy bacon or greasy sausages only good stuff. Exceellent location near the old town and the office buildings + Bell centre.

We wanted to stay near Old Town Montreal and could not have made a better choice. This small hotel is filled with works of art, friendly staff, and very comfy beds. I hope to return here in the future.

Thank you TripAdvisor for once again helping us pick the right hotel. But your member reviews failed to prepare us for some interesting facts about this great stay. Oh yes, we learned that the rate is reasonable, and the rooms are well-appointed, and the breakfast nicely presented. All true.

But what we learned during our visit is that LHotel is owned by a celebrity who actually lives here. He parks his Bentley out front, and we saw him taking his coffee in the breakfast room elbow-to-elbow with his lucky guests. But the amazing thing about LHotel is this guy's museum-class art collection. Where does one get to gaze upon a Jasper Johns while awaiting the elevator or sleep with a Roy Lichtenstein above one's head?

From Robert Indiana's "LOVE" and Botero's "Voluptuous Man On Horse" greeting you at the front door to original works by Stella, Warhol and Chagall accompanying you in the lobby, guests are immersed in Pop Art of the finest order. Take all of this great art away and LHotel is still a very nice hotel convenient to Old Montreal. But given that the owner shares his wonderful art collection with his guests, this is an exceptional hotel stay art lovers will enjoy.

Room Tip: Enjoy the Lichtensteins in Room 416! There's no view, and the room is deadly quiet at the end of the hall. Enjoy!
