Very homey, intimate restaurant. The dinner crowd on this weeknight was convivial and sparse around so you could really have a conversation even with background peruvian music playing.
The food felt like music to your palate from beginning to end. We started a mix of appetizers (corn & fried bananas were my favorites). Then moved on to the Ensalada de Salmon with Tamarind sauce; and the tanginess was just perfect. The main dish was Mar Y Tierra (combination of filet mignon & shrimp) and it was simply exquisite. Well cooked and tastily seasoned!

Would definitely go back...

Like any restaurant in Montreal that serves foreign food, choices tend to be adapted to local tastes, sometimes brutalizing the original recipes. This is not really the case here. Most of the food tends to be pretty similar, if not identical, to what you would find in Peru. Same happens at Sol y Mar, the competition. Chef has made his own interpretations, like Salmon Huacatay (delicious), or adaptations (like using tomato paste instead of spicy peppers). All in all a very good option.

Went twice and fantastic place plus reasonable wine (SA plus $6), plus in the neighborhood I grew up in!

1. Food: seafood mixed soup was watery and 2 spicy. I tried this soup in Sol y Mar - original Peruvian-and it is not supposed to be spicy, had more fish. It does not say in the menu and when we asked to change it, they returned the same plate for the chef to "fix it". Nothing was done, only dilution with water was the chef job, it tasted same spicy! I am latin, my husband from Montreal, hey any of us are from Mexico!!! Specify in the menu! people can be allergic to spicy too!
- the soup contained fish skin, which is not supposed to be.
- One shrimp was too soft and more than maybe undercooked, tasted CHEMICALS! could not bite and did not swallow anything but the taste stay in my lips! Maybe they got cheap stuff from Asia!
- ceviche mixed: small portion, not clean fish, tough octopus.

2. Service awful: waiter forgot the drink, did not bring the spoon to serve the soup the second time, the waiter never came back to our table to ask if we were fine. Never came to fix the wobbly table. BUT he had time to follow up on the clients next to us who were 4 people, ordering wine, and entree and meal for each (obviously a more convenient table - as it is in Montreal. As if our money was worthless).
3. Price: expensive for what we got.
4. On the top of everything, some kind of indigestion we have still the next day.

Surprised this place is rated so high. In summary please try a much better option: Sol y Mar, with live music Saturdays from 8:30-10 pm.
