Decided to try something new in Old Montreal last weekend and wandered into Grange. Loved the country set-up of stag heads on the wall and cowhide covered bar stools mixed with modern design and trendy music at the perfect volume. Our server was OUTSTANDING - suggesting the perfect small plates and drinks combos and translating some unfamiliar words on the French menu for us ("cailles" is quail, btw). And while we hang around for over 3 hours, he appeared at our table exactly when we needed to order something else - and only then. No pressure. Such a relaxing atmosphere. And the food was just as great. Casual small plates like jalepeno grilled cheese and mini bison burgers were delish - comfort food with a twist. I only wish that they offered some sort of frites - sweet potato or otherwise. But maybe if they did I wouldn't have had room for dessert, which was super-rich and yummy. Our group ordered 4 and finished them all with a server-recommended glass of Banyuls. We all left full and happy, and will definitely stray from out Old Montreal regular to visit Grange again.

We ran across this place, located outside the craziness of Old Montreal. The waiter translated the entire menu for us, complete with commentary on what each dish is comprised of. The wine list is great. And most of our dishes tasted amazing. We really liked the beet carpacchio (who knew?) and ceviche salad. The bbq duck was okay, not great. But overall, great service, nice atmosphere (trying towards Western/"barn-like"), relaxed, and small, tapas-like plates.
