Harsh title so I'll start with what I did like. Close to Victoria Gardens which is a great place to walk or jog on the boardwalk. Easy parking. Lovely hostess/owner, Viola. She and her husband took the property over spring of 2017. Way too many knick knacks/clutter, tired wallpaper, fake plants everywhere and shabby bed linens. Some nice antiques but mixed with cheap reproductions and just old, worn out furniture. A fresh eye from an interior decorator and elbow grease would go a long way. Not a criticism but good to know it's nearly a mile from downtown on busy streets, and parking is challenging.

Room Tip: Third floor rooms would be the most quiet.

peiinnkeepers, Owner at Elmwood Heritage Inn, responded to this reviewResponded 8 September 2017

We are grateful for any and all feed back yet sometimes question if a guest should have selected a bed and breakfast or not. Specially to choose an inn in a Victorian Style Building

“Elmwood (1889) is a Queen Anne Revival influenced, wood framed home. It is located on a large treed lot reached via a gated 350-foot long tree lined driveway running up from the North River Road.
Elmwood's architecture was influenced by the Queen Anne Revival style, a style that was somewhat subdued in Charlottetown compared to other provinces. The Queen Anne Revival style was popular in Charlottetown from approximately 1880 until 1910. With its antique gates, long elm tree lined driveway, and well preserved Queen Anne Revival architecture; Elmwood is a fine example of the home of a prominent family in Charlottetown.”
Each room of Elmwood has different decoration style, Some artificial flowers are used for decorated along the door for The Victoria Room and Cunard Suite which this couple stayed, but real flowers are also set in the vas in the room. Our gardens with different plants, flowers which will show different colors based on their blooming timeline.

Elmwood is in a very quiet area. We market our inn as a property for 3.5 minutes driving or 15-20 minutes walking to downtown Charlottetown; 4 blocks to Victoria Park and harbour. Central located is not used for our advertising anywhere to mislead people who would like to find the central located hotel.

We have 350 foot long driveway for clients to park the car, it is easily to occupied 8-10 cars, should be no “challenge” for experienced driver.

We stayed three nights here in the Peake Suite over the Canada Day weekend. The suite was excellent for us giving two friends space, only problem was the stairs - but that was probably the result of us aging and knees not being what they used to be! The suite was very comfortable and we especially enjoyed the small kitchen and being able to make tea and coffee whenever we wanted.

Elmwood was wonderful for us - location was excellent, allowing us to walk into Charlottetown' CBD to view the celebrations and eat at some wonderful restaurants, all recommended and booked by the staff.

Breakfast was a treat, each morning having something different to eat. We especially liked being given some leftovers to take with us on our day's explorations.

The staff were superb, we had a major problem with our future itinerary for our journey and they gave us the right amount of support, which we greatly appreciated.

A special treat was being able to get some washing and drying done by the housekeeper, who kept our room wonderfully clean. Thank You!

We loved the furnishings and gardens of Elmwood; it remains, on our return home, a wonderful memory of PEI.

We stayed four nights of our 5-night stay in PEI at the Elmwood. When we arrived we were shown everything we could possibly want to know about the house and what we would need for our stay. They were very thorough. Our room was the Premier's Suite on the second floor. The room and bathroom were both very spacious. The shower was great and we loved that it was separate from the tub. We also loved the refrigerator, coffee maker, AND tea pot in the room. The AC was needed for our August stay and we greatly appreciated it. The bed was comfortable. We only used the flat screen TV once briefly, but it was nice to have that as well. There was a large wardrobe as well as two luggage stands and plenty of room for all of our things. We loved the room. On arrival, we were asked what time we would like our breakfast, our beverage (coffee or tea) preference, as well as any food allergies we had. We liked that we could choose our breakfast time and all the breakfasts were simple but delicious. The dining room was lovely as were the dishes and table settings...we always enjoyed starting our day with their breakfast. Probably the BEST thing about Elmwood are the employees...they were wonderful and they are what make this Inn shine. Their service made our trip delightful. They secured dinner reservations for us as well as theatre tickets. They fixed a minor issue in our room right away and were always eager to help. As for location, the hotel is perfectly situated only a few blocks from the main downtown Charlottetown area. We chose to drive to downtown and park, but it is easily walkable (maybe 10-15 minutes). Although most of the rooms were occupied during our stay, we hardly ever heard the other guests...it was very peaceful and quiet. Elmwood was just a perfect place to stay and we would definitely return if we find ourselves back on PEI in the future!

My wife and I had the pleasure of touring Prince Edward Island from 17 July to 26 July 2017.

During our trip planning about four months before going to PEI, we looked at TripAdvisor for advice on where we might stay on our first two nights in PEI, specifically where to stay in Charlottetown. We looked over numerous reviews before deciding that the Elmwood Heritage Inn was to be our first B & B on the Island. Of all of the rooms available at the Elmwood Heritage Inn, we chose “Rosa’s Room” to be our room for two nights – July 17th and 18th. The tasteful décor of the room and all of the included amenities throughout the house surely enhanced our stay.

After our booking confirmation email was received, we simply had to pay a deposit of just $100.00 to hold the room until our arrival in July. Our overall experience at the Elmwood Heritage Inn was superb! Upon arrival we met Jay (host) and his wife Carol (hostess) in the main reception area. Jay meticulously explained the amenities afforded to guests and then answered all of our questions as well. We were guided to our room where the true meaning of rest and relaxation started to unfold. A beautiful room with plenty of space to relax and feel at home. All expectations of our stay were met, to include: a very comfortable queen sized bed in our room at the top floor of the house; two enjoyable breakfasts, of which, my wife’s vegan dietary needs were accommodated by simply advising Carol what she could and could not eat; and finally, the friendly interaction with Carol and Jay during our stay there.

As Charlottetown is the capital of PEI, there are numerous things to do and all within driving or walking distance of the Elmwood Heritage Inn. We chose to explore downtown by car after getting settled into our comfortable room and freshening up in our large sized bathroom. There is no shortage of places to eat or drink in Charlottetown and we managed to locate several by just walking around downtown or quickly researching on TripAdvisor. Jay was also keen on making suggestions on where we might like to tour or eat in Charlottetown as well.

The entire atmosphere at the Elmwood Heritage Inn is best described as “comfortable and worry free” - we truly felt relaxed during our two nights here and were well taken care of by our gracious host and hostess.

In summary, the Elmwood Heritage Inn has earned numerous accolades from several travellers’ reviews as well as a few TripAdvisor awards. Once you step into the Elmwood Heritage Inn, the reason they have received so many Kudos becomes quite obvious. My wife and I would gladly spend one or more nights at the Elmwood Heritage Inn if ever in the same area again – we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would strongly encourage other travellers to spend a night or more here.

Cheers!

Tomas & Sherrie from Petawawa, Ontario, Canada

We stayed three nights at this stately century old home; two on the third floor (Nurse's Room) and one on the main floor (Cook's Room). Climbing two flights of stairs may present a challenge for some guests. The staff made special efforts to accommodate our needs/tastes even baking gluten-free muffins and finding fruit that we prefer. They even provided us with recipes.
