On a recent visit to Toronto we stopped in the Rex one evening and liked it enough to go back the next night. Their brochure indicates that at least two bands play each night and on weekends four or five. Our first night about seven folks were playing typical New Orleans jazz or Dixieland. Later that same evening three guys played rather modern jazz. The next night a 14 piece band played and we were asked to pay a cover charge. There was no cover the previous evening so either it was the quality or the sheer size of the band that resulted in a cover charge. All three bands we heard were different but they all played jazz which is pretty much all you hear at the Rex. The pub was fairly large but many of the chairs were a ways away from the stage area. Besides a nice range of beer they had house wines, juices and sodas and all the regular bar favorites, plus a menu and lots of people were eating. I heard that they also had rooms and looked at their website and it is also has a small hotel. It's on Queen Street South which is a major street and walkable to the center of town but there is also a streetcar that runs along Queen in both directions. The pub was good. The music was terrific if you like jazz.
