There aren't many opportunities to get food near the Festival Theatre just before performances. The Arden Park and Bruce Hotel restaurants aren't far way but for those arriving at the Festival Theatre with little time to spare it isn't feasible to go to either. Luckily the Cafe at the Theatre is open both before the show and at intervals and provides a range of food and drink to satisfy those in need of sustenance. Located just inside the South entrance to the Festival Theatre it serves sandwiches, ice cream bars, assorted pastries (flourless brownies, scones and the like), coffee, tea and drinks that purchasers can consume at seats in the large foyer. Patrons can also order lunches in advance to be picked up at the Cafe on the performance day.

The theatre is quite far from other restaurants. There is plenty of room for a nice patio and a more varied menu. The gardens and grounds are lovely. It was a beautiful day, space inside was limited so we ended up eating our sandwiches sitting on a bench outside.[ The Shaw Festival Theatre has a lovely patio ]. The sandwich was generously large with lots of ham and cheese and very good. Cannot help thinking what a wasted opportunity it is not to have a really first class restaurant , a destination to go to before the show instead of grabbing a sandwich .

I had a picnic lunch before a play. I had a huge egg salad sandwich, cookie, apple and a bottle of water. It was a bit pricey but it was delicious. There is not a lot of tables inside. I had to eat outside and it was very hot outside.

I led 43 people to see Guys and Dolls and had lunch at the theater before the performance. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the buffet and it is attached to the theater so it is very convenient.

$5 for a cup of tea! Outrageous even if you can keep the plastic cup. Otherwise, sandwiches are fairly good seating to eat can be a problem before plays.
