NIce crafts beers, and they make a killer Long Island Iced Tea!
Food is good, staff is friendly and all ages go there.
Weekends its more 20s and 30s, but all ages can mingle just fine.
Give their craft beer a try, its what they specialize in!

Came in about 5:30pm on a Wednesday. The place was pretty full upstairs only. They got me a table in short order. The downstairs was still empty. The bartender, and 3 waitresses were very well coordinated. Had haddock fish and chips. The haddock was ok. Not as good as cod. The fries were a little cool and most were very short pieces. Also had wings. These were done well. Constant friendly service attention. The lightning upstairs was pretty dark except right under a light.

We dropped in for lunch and were seated by the front window. It was nice to watch people coming and going on St. Paul Street. I enjoyed the fried green tomato sandwich with shoestring fries. I really like the roasted red pepper romesco sauce and avocado that come on the sandwich. Great bun, too! He had the chicken and waffles, which was enhanced with red-eye mayo and maple mustard. The Merchant Ale House has some terrific house brews and some other Ontario microbrews, as well as a respectable offering of Niagara VQA wines. Friendly service, top notch food, good atmosphere, fair price.

Loved our dining experience. Casual and just right. Tasty food. We dined downstairs which was a pleasant surprise. Upstairs was a little noisy for us anyway after a long day. I’m not a big beer drinker at all but loved the light beer they had to offer. (If I have beer, it’s usually Mill Street or Coors Light). The beer I had at The Merchant Ale was that much better! Located in downtown with street and public parking nearby. We’ll be back when our travels bring us to St. Catharines again!
