The lock is a brilliant piece of engineering that you need to see in action to fully appreciate. There are steps to walk up to the top lock or you can sit in the park by the lower lock and watch the activity on the canal. There is a small visitor centre with a shop and displays depicting the story of the lock – donations are welcomed. There is plenty of parking and washrooms. You can also get a boat trip that takes you through the locks. Worth making a detour to visit.

It was a great cruise, we were informed about all the interesting events that took place and the crew were great. I have celiac and dairy issue and the chef was very accomodating.

Before moving to Peterborough I tried to research as much as I possibly could about the city. But all I could really find out was that it was home to the 2nd highest lift lock bridge globally! What a claim to fame! Well done, Peterborough. If you follow the path on up from the Lift Lock Bridge you will eventually find yourself at Lakefield. A nice little town and well worth the trip along the river
