My wife and I stayed here when we went to see our daughter in university. We were pleasantly surprised the bed was quite comfy, the room was clean and comfortable. We will definitely be staying here again.

If you have a car and don't mind being away from the downtown Ottawa area, this is actually a great little place to stay. It's about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown, but nowhere near as expensive as some of the hotels there. It is a bit of an older property, but all we needed was a clean and quiet room since we didn't plan on spending our whole time at the hotel.

In the morning, the staff provides complimentary cereal, muffins, and coffees, with other snacks available for purchase throughout the day.

Room Tip: Because it's an older property, you will be getting an actual room key as opposed to multiple key cards.

We arrived in the evening before a day of meetings in Ottawa. Mr. R. on the front desk was welcoming, and ready two show us two rooms to choose from. I was astonished that a motel established in 1954 or thereabouts could be so clean, with rooms so fresh. The bathrooms were spotless, simple and well-appointed. The bed linens were likewise perfect. Although not far from a busy road and convenient to Ottawa airport and a number of corporate and Canadian head offices, our room was quiet. Coffee, muffins, breakfast cereals and such in the motel office the next morning were simple and easy for grab and go. The coffee was strong and of good quality. In the morning Ms. A. was on the front desk and, like Mr. R. the evening before, she was helpful, cheerful, and welcoming. We were there late in the autumn, with the days short, winter about to arrive, and frost in the air. But in the morning the great old pines in the forecourt yard, on a grass circle with great wooden garden chairs lined up that probably get good use on warm summer evenings, the hotel looked as inviting from the driveway is the rooms were comfortable during our stay. We got a lot of good work done on our brief business trip, and left well-rested, content and successful. After staying in hundreds of hotels around the world over the past two decades, from the luxury suites to the basic economy places, The Rideau Heights is a keeper: a great place to spend a few evenings, terrific value, good people, and a clean and comfortable place.

Room Tip: Ask the front desk to show you their best available rooms at check in. They will be happy to show you.

Our room was as expected and we stayed there 3 nights.
Morning food is only muffins, coffee & yogurt not a breakfast selection.
We checked at 1PM . We came with our special prepared food and put it in the fridge. Then we went to our pre-exhibition event until 10 PM. The Next morning we discovered our food was warm and spoiled.(about $30+). The fridge had been turned OFF the entire time. NO staff told us about the fridge being OFF, AND NO SIGN or Information in the room about it being off. So we had to buy our lunches and snacks at the event for the next 2 days. (about $40). Day staff only said "Did you not see that the fridge door was left slightly open ?" We did not!...... We were told we had to talk to manager who was Not there about the issue.. Extremely disappointed about our Food loss.

Room Tip: Of all our travels this is the only time we have lost food in a Hotel fridge. Using less energy &electricity is a Good Idea, but we Definitely needed to be told by staff or have room signage about the fridge being OFF! and where to find the switch to turn it on and set a proper temperature.

We've stayed in this motel several times after we've stayed in other hotels in Ottawa and it has become our first choice accomodation since we've tried it. It's reasonably priced for all the basic necessities we need for a stay in a hotel. I would say the rooms we stayed in are really clean because I never experienced stuffy nose during our stays. Beds were comfortable for sleeping; location is nice & very relaxing with garden, tree & muskoka chairs; rooms we stayed in were very quiet at night despite of its proximity to the street road. Bonus: There's vent in washroom; we saw rabbits once; muffins were good; free newspapers and friendly staff always.
