The hotel was very nice, our room was great and we had no problems at all. At some spots the hotel look carpet looked kind of dated to me, but it could be the way they wanted to keep it because of the history. I'm more on contemporary style myself.
The staff were amazing and I enjoyed staying there for one night.

Room Tip: Our view was very beautiful Room was more towards the back side. Only thing was, there was a lot of construct..on the side of the hotel.

Fabulous, historic hotel in the heart of the canal district...everything at your fingertips.
Beautiful stay, and we'd never stay elsewhere. We were there as part of a wedding. The reception luncheon, ceremony and grand dinner was absolutely fabulous! Our room overlooked the canal. It was dreamy!

We were probably unlucky with our room at the Chateau Laurier but were disappointed with our stay. Although the room was a good size, the air-conditioning was dreadfully noisy, with a consistently resonant clang and rattle. Probably the noisiest we had in 6 weeks of travel. Furthermore, our room was at the front of the hotel and directly over the bright exterior lights. The curtains did not adequately cover the windows and the room was so brightly lit it was like daylight. We even found we had to wear airline masks to try to get some sleep.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the front.

Everything is perfect except no free Wi-Fi. Nice location, history, architecture. Highly recommend it. Price is good. Parking is convenient and available for 24 hours. Best choice when going to Ottawa if budge is not a problem.

I've stayed at many 5 Star properties on business over the years, so I have a good point of reference. As this hotel is currently under renovations (as most of Ottawa is in preparation for the 150th birthday in 2017) I've had to knock it down to an average rating. The reception staff are courteous, the food is pricey but of high quality and the location & historic qualities are unparalleled. All of this is expected for 5 stars. Why only Average?? Due to the fact that it does not go above and beyond in amenities & the courtesies supplied in the bar fridge are outrageously overpriced for convenience- think $5.00 for a Kit Kat bar! Also amenities in bathroom are the basics required not anything extra. Shower is standard tub/shower head...no rain shower or shower wand. No lounge access for Gold Members on 4th floor due to renovarions. Pool closed for renovations too & had to go to Westin Hotel across the street to use a pool.
Room was lovely, linens & bed fabulous but paint peeling on windows & in bathroom behind the door. Internet was down one night - thankfully as a Gold Member there is no charge for WiFi.
Bottom line...the Chateau Laurier needs to "go the extra mile" especially to maintain the 5 Star reputation & especially as there is an inconvenience due to the renovations. Or it could give a renovation discount or concession like free parking???
