I booked this hotel online, without having seen pictures. I needed a place to stay in Niagara Falls, and it was a holiday weekend. I paid roughly $350CAD for two nights. I arrived very late at night after driving 8 hours. I checked in, and went to my room. I was right away so disgusted and shocked that I had paid that money for that room. It was room #6. Right away, the window was broken, and couldn't be closed except by going outside and pushing it in. The carpets were visibly filthy and stained. The sheets and blankets had stains on them. All the furniture looked beat up and unclean, like it had been picked out of the garbage. The caulking around the sink and shower were black with mold. The shower curtain had black mold on it. I could not stay there, so despite being exhausted I started searching for other hotels. I told the E-lodge that I found the room unacceptable and could not stay. They did not want to refund me. After much arguing, I received a partial refund. I was willing to pay the exorbitant prices at another hotel (upwards of $300/night) because I was that unwilling to stay at the E-lodge. I have never seen a motel that I found so disgusting that I could not sleep there until I saw the E-lodge. I found a clean acceptable hotel nearby, and luckily they had a vacancy.
The next day I called back to request the rest of my refund, and the person I spoke to was rude and unapologetic. When I told him the shower had black mold, he responded that he had seen black mold in Holiday Inn hotels as well, as if that makes it okay.
After this experience, I read further reviews and found one that described the exact room I was in (#6) and described the same black mold dated from 6 YEARS AGO!!!! So in all this time, E-lodge clearly does not care to even clean up their place a little. If the E-lodge is your only option, DON'T TAKE IT! Drive all night or sleep in your car, do anything to avoid this place.
