We have visited many historic homes and museums but we've never STAYED in one. It was so fun to be allowed to go beyond, "the velvet rope," to touch the history and enjoy the charm of this magnificent property. We were fascinated by the little things: like the old shutters in our room that recessed into the trim, the creaky wooden floors and the intricate woodwork. The bathrobes and slippers were a nice touch. We were delighted to be served dessert (fancy and delicious!) late in the evening in the drawing room, where we sat alone in stately chairs. It was romantic, peaceful and beautiful. Breakfast was delicious. I enjoyed the bacon and eggs, bagels and fresh juice in particular. The staff were impeccable in their hospitality.
We debated staying in a modern hotel before knowing anything about accommodations in London. The price here was only slightly more but the charm, services and value puts Idlewyld head and shoulders above anything else in London. From hinges and latches to food and service, it's the details that count.More
