The atmosphere was modern with a jazz theme. Food is good with great presentation and service was attentive. Part of the restaurant near the bar section is accessible for handicaps or people using walkers. I had the back rib plate which was good.

I was truly surprised by the quality of the food here- unique creations which are extremely tasteful. Very upscale atmosphere and pleasant staff.

I came with my Dad and a couple other extended family members for an early dinner on a Saturday. We were all beyond impressed! The menu, service, decor, atmosphere, and especially our meals, were all fantastic. I had the day's fish feature (jerk-spiced tuna steaks over beet risotto w/ mango salsa -- pictured) and the flavours were absolutely incredible! All of the elements of my dish paired perfectly and were mind-blowingly good. It is also very evident that the dishes are made from the finest quality of locally sourced ingredients. Everything was on point. Will definitely be coming back! Thanks Mattson & Co. for an amazing experience.

Before you go to this restaurant read all of the poor and terrible reviews regarding their policies where they charge for no shows. If you make a reservation for 10 and 9 show up they will want to charge you $40 for the no show. This policy was not explained to the person making the reservation over the phone. Our party was interrupted twice during our meal, once by the server and then by the manager/owner basically whining about our no-show. Other than that, the service was just acceptable and the food definitely did not live up to the ego of the manger owner. The food was not good enough to warrant coming back to this restaurant with those policies.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of how your evening went at our restaurant.

When writing a review or telling the world of an experience, it is always important to share the entire story.

First of all, I will not apologize for a policy that was created for exactly the reasons of folks like yourself. We never had such a policy when we opened but a continued lack of respect for our business forced us to take action.

Your party made reservation for 12 guests at 6:00pm (not 10 as you original shared) and as such we placed your group in our Atrium (a small private glass room that overlooks Locke Street). In order to create a table of 12 we joined several tables.

In the end, only 8 guests showed up of your 12. Your were not “interrupted” as you claim but rather the server simply asked about the arrival time of your other guests.

The person who made the reservation advised him that it will only 8 guests, also indicating that she was not told our cancellation policy. He said he would speak to the Owner (myself) regarding your 4 guests (not one as you claim) who did not show up and dropped the topic.

He then welcomed everyone, asked if there was a celebration of friends this evening. Someone shared it was a retirement party and he congratulared the guest of honour. The server shared the features and asked for a drink order. This is exactly what he is suppose to do and acted professionally the entire evening offering you and all the other guests the best service.

Your table ordered appetizers and your entrees (which included some of our features).

At the quality check, everyone shared how much the loved their meals and words such as “heavenly", "great" and "amazing” were all used. You loved our food so much that you asked to take the leftovers home.

Again, you were not “interrupted” as you shared with my presence. I enquired about the 4 no shows and was told that they simply did not show up and they did not call to you to notify your party.

I found this quite surprising since I assumed they were friends and/or family and they simply disappeared. At that time, I reminded the host of our policy who shared she was not told she made the reservation. Again another surprise to me because every reservation (6 or more) that is made is advised of our policy and a credit card taken. They are reminded to give us a call if their numbers increase or decrease or they will be charged for any no shows. A credit card is also taken on Friday and Saturday nights despite the number of guests.

If you had called like other folks do to reduce the numbers, we would not be having this communication or no charge would apply.

Your lack of respect in assuming the four absent guests on a SOLD OUT night would not cause on impact on a business, our servers and business partners shows a tremendous lack of care. Worst of all to pretend that you did not know where they were just simply is baffling (people do not just disappear).

Again, I will not apologize for wanting to make a living for our staff, my business partners and myself.

In saying all of the above, as to not ruin a wonderful night for everyone, NO charge was added to your bill for the four “missing” guests.

Throughout the night our extended Mattson family pampered all your guests. You had an amazing night and sorry to read these negative words.

Your two star rating will not break our spirits but remind us that need to stay true to ourselves as we continue to build an amazing business in our community.

Dinner was excellent. Service great. I had halibut on a bed of lemon scented rice with fresh grilled vegetables. Can’t wait to go back !
