We always like to find a great bargain when traveling - the short (10 minute) ride across Halifax Harbour on the ferry offers great views of the waterfront and city skyline and costs only $2.50 (seniors $1.75) if you return in less than 90 minutes. There are two different routes you can take ( Dartmouth and Woodside). We chose the Dartmouth route. There was more than enough time to linger at the Alderney Landing market and grab a bite of local seafood before returning.
Lovely way to view the Halifax harbor and travel between Halifax and Dartmouth. You need exact change. The cost is only $2.50 and $1.75 for seniors. Get a transfer and you can use the ferry for free if you return within 90 minutes.
If you want an inexpensive ferry ride in Halifax, this is the one. We rode over to Dartmouth and back, stopping for lunch by the terminal on the Dartmouth side. Run by Halifax Transit, you can board for the price of a bus fare, get a transfer and continue your journey by bus, or return. We sat by the shore on the Dartmouth side and enjoyed the harbour activity and the great view of the Halifax skyline. Ferries run every fifteen minutes weekdays, every 30 minutes evenings. A great ride on a sunny day and a truly great bargain.
Cheap and easy way to get a view of the harbour/waterfront there are 2 ferry routes to Dartmouth both cost $2.50 exact fare only no change given(there are change machines when you come in) remember and ask for a transfer ticket (return) so as your return journey is free.
This is an excellent (and affordable option) to entertain your young ones from Dartmouth to Halifax. They thoroughly enjoyed their trip on the Ferry from Alderney Landing over to the Halifax Waterfront. A novel yet pleasing experience for all.
We decided to ride the ferry over to Dartmouth just to get a different perspective on the waterfront and the city as a whole and we found it so enjoyable. Ferries run quite frequently so the wait to board on both ends was very quick.
If you are planning to take the ferry like we did, just to see both areas from the water, you can do so by just paying once.....but you will have to get off the ferry on the Dartmouth end for security reasons and reload....simply ask an employee where/how to do this to avoid having to pay a 2nd fee.
