The maritime exhibits are okay, but it’s the section about the huge 1914 explosion that is fascinating. We arrived just as Andrew began his 30-minute lecture showcasing elements of the exhibit. He was a bit theatrical, but nonetheless engaging. The museum is located on the scenic Halifax waterfront.

This was a great stop on our tour! From the WW2 Battle of the Atlantic to the Titanic everything Canadian nautical was covered. This museum is a must see for history buffs, especially those interested in learning about the Maritime Provinces. Don’t miss the short film on the sinking of the Titanic!

With its long naval history this is a well laid out museum with lots of different exhibits including the explosion which devastated a large area of Halifax as well as the Titanic display which details the rescue and subsequent transportation of those who didn't survive to Halifax with some interesting artefacts from the vessel. In one large hall there are a number of different boats on display and the upstairs showcasing the introductions and advancement of steam powered Atlantic crossings. Well worth the time and money and an adult ticket being just under 10 Canadian dollars. There is also an outside viewing area where you can look out across the water and boardwalk, and at the entrance you will meet the museum parrot.

Except for the ticket price, the place is a good one to visit while in Halifax, NS. Parking is available on many nearby streets. The Titanic exhibit is quite nice with many photos, artifacts, and descriptions of the ill-fated history of this ship.

This is a very good museum detailing the maritime history around Halifax. Memorable exhibits include one on the Titanic and a very good one on the Halifax Explosion in 1917. If you are interested in learning the imortance of the maritime history to Halifax it is well worth a visit.
