Located near the centre of the water front area with easy access to restaurants and shops. Nice rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. Buffet style breakfasts with great muffins and pancakes. Parking easy behind the hotel.

Spanish Bay Inn is in an old building downtown that has surely seen better days, with a complex interior layout typical of a place that must have been remodeled umpteen times. The decor and fittings match this feeling, and could be described as "boutique" or "random" or "period" (though not clear WHICH period), and I am not sure the rooms qualify as "suites" – at least mine was just a standard bedroom with ensuite bath. In a word it's a funky hotel in a funky location in a funky city. On the plus side it's just by the waterfront boardwalk and is adjacent to two of the best eateries in town (Flavor and Governor"s Pub). It also has sufficient onsite free parking. Entry is by door code and reception is not manned 24/7 so I'd suggest to advise arrival time in advance. The staff are, however, friendly and efficient. Breakfast is a self-serve buffet included in the room price. The offerings are rather standard fare for continental breakfast for North America, though I am always a bit mystified by which continent is being referred to. Anyhow, if cereals, yoghurt, apples, toast or bagels with plastic-wrapped jams, butter portions hard from the fridge, and reasonable tea and coffee are to your liking, you will not be disappointed. The sweet muffins are left out 'under glass', but I did not find this appealing. To me the rate was expensive at 160 CAD including taxes, since I paid the same in a much swankier place in downtown Halifax. It's probably a better bet than the chain hotels in town, which seem to cater mostly for coach parties, and where the breakfast is likely to be even less alluring. Nevertheless, it seems overpriced.

Excellent stay in this hotel. Very satisfied, clean suite. Location is perfect, across the boardwalk, just a few minutes walk from the famous fiddle. The staff was so friendly sorry didn't get her name. Thanks.

This is an old building, renovated into an inn. There are no lifts for people with disability. Furnishings are antique but comfortable. Breakfast is a basic continental that could be improved. Location is excellent with a pub/eatery located less than a block away, and other options/fast food restaurants nearby.

Someone in a previous review said "an odd little place - it's difficult to describe this hotel without sounding weird". That person belongs in chain hotel. This was in our favourite place to stay during our two weeks in the maritimes and we stayed in far more expensive place than the Spanish Bay Inn for most of them. The furnishings were beautiful. Mix of antiques and modern, tastefully done. The room was clean and there were great pieces to admire. The dining room was just that - an exquisite dining room with all the modern conveniences. Linda was fabulous. She called us ahead of us checking in and ensured she was there to help us get settled. Great service, great location, great value. Thank you Linda!
