Worth a visit if you are in Sydney to see some of the local crafts. This was one of the few places that was open when we visited on a week-day morning. Unfortunately, many of the downtown stores and restaurants were either closed or empty when we visited. Perhaps the town comes alive when a cruise ship enters the harbour, but we were not there on a cruise ship day and found little to do during our visit to Sydney.

This center features interesting and widely priced pieces of arts, craft and other artisanal products from the Cape Breton area. It is on the main street of the old Sydney downtown.

A visit to this shop will help you plan for some visits to craft shops and galleries on the Cabot Trail. You can see art from a variety of crafters and artists at the shop. When you see something you like, you can get a map that designates where the artist has a gallery and/or workshop on the Cabot Trail. We made five stops on our drive at specific galleries. We were able to see a greater variety of their work and talk to the artists. Even if you don't plan to drive the Cabot Trail, this shop has beautiful items.

Shop filled with local merchandise and works. A lot of talent has gone into producing these objects. Beautiful work.

The Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design is a wonderful place to go to see and purchase local crafts by local artists. They also have a small museum area to see. There is a good selection of unique jewelry that is reasonably priced. Also stained glass art, scarves, hand painted cards, pottery, paintings and soaps.
