“hydroelectric power plant generating 10-12% of all energy needs of New Brunswick”

Pretty amazing that this dam generates about a tenth of the total energy consumption of the province. It was built in 1965-1968 by two thousand workers. The replacement value today is five billion dollars. The dam is located about fifteen kilometres east of Fredericton. You see water and concrete, that's about it. But amazing the amount of power generated here!

Great trails around a beaver pond and other walking trails as well. All trails have been recently upgraded and are quite comfortable to walk. There are dipping nets for the kids available at the pond and you can also sign out explorer back packs for the kids with binoculars, bird and critter books, nets, collection plastic containers and a field book for kids observations. There is also a golf course, lodge with first class restaurant and camp grounds. In the winter there i9s one of the ponds cleared for skating and cross country and snowshoe trails. Skis and snow shoes are available to sign out free of charge.

Not to far off the transcanada highway. A quieter approach to Fredericton. Engineering interest. Nice rural area or suburb of Fredericton.

As an attraction there is not much to see for walkers as there are no walking paths on th bridge itself but driving over the bridge is nice to do to the water cascading below the dam level into St. John River. So best place to experience the dam is from Upper Kingsclear. Starting from the body of water at Hillview street upper kingsclear. Waterfront Land is hard to come by here as there is not much if it left and if you are a boat lover you can get good sailing on mactquac waters as well as good swimming in clean water. Great attraction in the summer and winter if you like the outdoors.

A nice leisurely drive from Fredericton or go through Keswick Ridge. Either way, the scenery is beautiful. Campground not far from the dam.
