I booked this through whistlerreservations.com who were absolutely first class. Immediate replies to all my queries were given with a friendly 'never a problem' eagerness to help. And they were incredibly helpful at booking all the things we needed; having lift passes waiting for us in the property was terrific.
The house is organised over three levels. On the bottom floor is a small cupboard by the front door for storing skis etc. Just inside the front door there is a small vestibule and then another door leads into a staircase, a bathroom and two bedrooms. Unfortunately, the hot tub was also on this floor and, nice as it was, it meant traipsing through someone else's room in order to get to it. This arrangement also meant that you have to be careful to keep doors shut to ensure that cold air does not make the ground floor rooms cold.
On the next floor there was an open-plan kitchen and living area, which was nice. There was a TV, DVD and sound system, together with basic kitchen appliances. The glass table in the living room was a little wonky and the two sofas were not that comfortable. But the TV was large and there was a nice faux fire.
Going up to the top floor there was a cupboard with a washer/dryer in it. There was, however, inadequate space to dry the amount of skiwear and other clothing that an extended family of six will generate. Then there is a master bedroom with an en suite. The mattress on this bed was broken and was like sleeping in a canoe the first night. We managed to salvage things with some cushions placed under the mattress, but it wasn't ideal. The socket behind the bed was also broken and the ceiling light had blown. There were some bulbs in a drawer downstairs but no ladder with which to reach the ceiling light.
To ski out in the morning, there was a 3 minute walk to the slopes. Very convenient. And it was also very convenient for walking down to the village (down the piste). It should be possible to ski back to the house when the snow is good but we were rather lacking for snow and so this wasn't possible. The bus stop was very close and buses ran regularly.
In essence, the house was incredibly expensive to rent over the Christmas and New Year period and for the money I would have expected everything to be in good working order. We have been to Whistler before at this time of year and obtained better value.
