Description: Stage is a small-plate restaurant and wine bar located across from the Belfry Theatre in Victoria's trendy Fernwood neighbourhood. Stage supports local farmers, food artisans, and serves a variety of tapas-style dinner offerings. Options range from duck confit and crispy chicken to made-in-house sausage, vegetarian dishes and the city's largest cheese selection. The 55 seat restaurant's vibe is upbeat and funky while maintaining a classy and unique feel. Brick walls, reclaimed hardwood floors, hanging candles, and rotating local art, all combine to create a truly local Victoria experience. Stage has also won several awards including Top 10 new restaurant in 2005 by En Route Magazine, Restaurant of the Year by Vancouver Magazine, and a Silver Medal at the 2013 and 2014 Vancouver International Wine Festival."Winning over patrons from Fernwood and beyond"! - N.Y. Four of us went to Stage Wine Bar last fall, on a Saturday evening. We arrived just before 5:30, and sat at the back of the restaurant. My husband and I have been there a couple of times before, and absolutely love the food. The food is not the problem. The place was a little less than half full, and within a few minutes of us arriving, the music was cranked up. I asked our server if it could be turned down a bit, but she explained that (don't remember the name) likes to have it loud to contribute to the vibe etc. I said, really? I can't hear our friends sitting across the table about 2 feet away, how does that contribute to the vibe? Plus, it's all concrete, brick, hard surfaces, so no sound is absorbed. I pretty much sat with 3 other people for an amazing dinner and could not hear a word anyone said. It was so frustrating!!! I can understand as the evening goes on and folks get a little more rowdy, then the music can be louder. But, as I looked around this Saturday night, there were a lot of gray-haired folks like us, who did not seem to be doing a lot of talking.

After finding a parking spot a few blocks away we made it for our 6 pm dining reservation. We started with marinated olives which were divine. We then shared Salt Spring Island mussels and pommes frites. I enjoyed a nice glass of Norton Malbec. We also shared the carrot, beet and pear salad and pork confit special. Service was outstanding.

Three of us chose this place to hookup as we had been before and liked it. We showed up at 4 minutes before 5. They open at 5. We were promptly told they were not yet open. Went across the street for a cocktail and came back. Had a few different plates and a few glasses of wine. Our bill was $189.30 plus tip. Won’t hurry back. If you want a meal, go elsewhere but if you are okay with a half bottle of Chat la Gorce for $32 this is the place!

A great place to enjoy a glass (or two) of wine with delicious Tapas. Great selection of wines and food. A small place so reservations are recommended especially at weekends and when the adjecent Belfry Theatre has their perfomance night. Somewhat noisy, but this adds to the vibrant ambiance. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed!

I have been popping in here for years - often before or after (or both) a play at the Belfry Theatre. Amazing selection of wines, cheeses and unique small plate offers. Ambience is excellent too.
