I enjoyed the location, just adjacent to the Royal Museum. The boutique feel of the hotel was something I look for. The value for the time of year we visited and close proximity to all Victoria has to offer was nice!We stayed in the second building beside the lobby. The room was clean and other then sheets forgotten on the sofa bed, that the front staff quickly remedied...we had a restful and relaxing time! Having a full kitchen was a bonus with kids. The renovations that had been done are tasteful and pleasant. Having beaverages in the lobby was great and also the knowledgable staff to guide us to where we wanted to go a plus! We were allowed to leave our vehicle earlier then check in and again on our check out day which was kind and helped us considerably to not have to find parking somewhere else. There was a nice balcony to relax on and being on a main road we were surprised we didn't notice traffic in the night. Great place for families, couples or anyone looking for a quiet place, close to everything.

Room tip: Ground floor of building 2

We were pleasantly amazed with our room that was up to date with a full kitchen for a decent price. We have stayed in a few hotels near this one and I will always check availability at Helm's Inn first in future. Loved it. Free parking and wifi. I forgot to leave my parking pass on my dashboard and I did receive a note but my car was still there when I checked out.

We're life-long Van Isle residents and have walked by the Helms Inn many times, however, never stayed there during our jaunts to Victoria... until now. It was far beyond our expectations for such a low-key but centralized Inn with a suspiciously attractive price. They say you get what you pay for. Wrong - totally wrong - with the Helms Inn. It's by far the best value in downtown Victoria.

Our room was shoulder season - October 2018 - for $116 Cdn (taxes included) plus a $5 parking fee. Maybe it didn't have a panoramic harbour view, but our room was as nice as anything you'd find in places twice to three times the price. Tasteful, newly-remodeled decor with a super-comfortable king bed and top-weave linens. A fully-equipped kitchenette with granite counters, floors and splash. Stainless appliances. Everything we needed for a short or long stay, down to oven mitts and dish-towels.

I could go on and on about little things like the in-room safe, available laundry self-service and unlimited coffee... but the real kicker was the Helms Inn staff like Chris at the front desk. In our time, we've rarely had a more personable and helpful guy who - to his admission - also never heard of the Helms Inn until he was looking for work. We sincerely hope Chris stays at the Helms Inn and retires long, long after serving totally satisfied guests like us.

Sincerely, the Helms Inn is the best value in downtown Victoria, and we'll be back.

Room tip: Check what size room you really need as there are small units like we had and large multi-person suites.

We booked a double room with 2 double beds and it was on the ground floor. We did not notice a lot of traffic noise. It was great to only pay $5 for the car parking. The rooms do feel a little tired but they are clean, the beds were comfortable, bathroom had a decent sized bath and we loved being able to walk to the inner harbour from here. I think it is a good value hotel. Very happy with our one night stay.
