Dec. 18th. This was our first visit to your Carthage Café and we loved the intimate atmosphere and nice decor, something we were looking for. The menu had everything we liked - with various Tunisian and French entrés to choose from...so it was hard to decide. We started with a glass of Grewurtztraminer for my Mrs and I had the Cote-du-Rhone, along with their very delightful ‘special salad’. My wife ordered the escargots and I, the Coquilles St. Jacques...and - WOW...!! - both were fabulous, done to perfection and The best tasting Coquilles I ever had...seriously. For our entre’s, my wife chose the Steak Frites...( a Paris fav of ours..) and I went with the Fish seafood special, with saffron rice and fresh vegetables. Steak done perfectly and the fish plate was excellent...! The..., best tasting meal we have had in a long time, - every bite was delicious. We finished our meals with one of the best crème caramels along with a cappuccino each.
Our sincere compliments to the chef for a fabulous meal and for the wonderful and courteous service.
We felt really pampered and enjoyed a wonderful meal and evening....so we just wanted you to know that we shall highly recommend your little gem of a restaurant, not only on Trip Advisor but also to all our friends.
We shall return, for sure..!

Tried their Aioli mussels and lamb shank couscous, my husband had their special which was the rack of lamb. Overall the experience was pleasant, staff were friendly and attentive. The lamb shank was okay, a little on the dry side and there was a lot of couscous. My husbands lamb rack was average, nothing mind blowing. I would have to say the mussels were the highlight. Both ours and our friend's mussel dishes were delicious. They mussels were fresh, done just right, and flavours exceptional. I would definitely recommend Carthage for mussels, the rest was just average.

Last minute decision to check this restaurant out, as it was in the neighbourhood of our friend. No reservations, but the staff cleared a wee table near the kitchen. Service was terrific, food wonderful, great menu. Sadly, did not get the names of the two servers, both knowledgable on menu items, friendly and experienced. Small in nature, so we weren't overwhelmed by high noise levels. Will definitely share our great experience with our friends and will go back.

We arrived Sat night, 730 and the places was full except for the reserved tables. Our group of 4 were immediately seated. The attentive mature servers timely with service. The ambiance definitely had a cozy (maybe seats 30?) feel. The heat from the kitchen warmed the place on an otherwise cool Sep evening.

The food, it was very good. We shared the Provencale mussels, a plate of about 15 mussels in a tasty broth. One of the group found them a little to "ocean" tasting and avoided, but the rest enjoyed. Two of us had the couscous, one the Halibut, the other the Merquez. The vegetables were well cooked and tasty, providing flavour for the cous cous. Unfortunately the halibut was undercooked, however; the server was gracious and quickly returned, reheated, and returned the plate. The spicy harissa added some heat to the lean sausage. My friends were pleased, one with the prawn starter, and special of the day artichoke/brie salad, together a very good portion for a lady, and the asparagus stuffed chicken, potato mash, veggie for him was a win. Dessert, they have several tasty options. All feeling well nourished, we split the Profiteroles to close out the meal. A flavour rich mix of chocolate topping, strawberry, vanilla ice cream, and of course the cream puff.

Drinks, they came early and often as we desired. Again the servers were attentive and not too busy so they responded well if our drinks were low. My friend ventured off the drink menu, and the server was able to match his request. We were treated to Limoncello appertif due to an unfortunate incident.

Unfortunate incident, and this isn't a reflection on the restaurant. The table behind us had left. An odd character was seated and seemed to be fidgety. Shortly after, my GF noticed a rustling behind her. Her purse, previously hanging on her chair had "slipped" off her chair and was now midway under the table where this individual was seated. She stood up and played innocent and retrieved her purse, luckily noting it missing. The individual left shortly thereafter. Tip of the day, keep an eye on belongings... The restaurant apologetic, however; by no means their fault. Unfortunately, Commercial Drive, as many other areas in Vancouver has nefarious characters roaming it.

In summary, for a random pick off Trip Advisor where we were looking to satisfy both vegetarian hybrids (eat fish) and carnivores we were very satisfied. Good service, great food, and drink! May need to reserve on a busy weekend night.

We spent a pleasant evening with friends here and we all agreed that the service was outstanding. Despite a full restaurant, our delightful and knowledgeable server, Kim, was pleasant, helpful and efficient. The prices are reasonable, the ambience is warm, intimate and bistro-ish, but the food is nothing special. The beef tenderloin was tough and chewy, but the mashed potatoes were delicious. The creamy chicken was O.K. and the halibut was quite good. The bountiful portion of vegetarian cous cous was tasty, but could have been much more interesting had they used a better variety of vegetables and more olives. Upon reflection, maybe one of us should have ordered the specialty mussels. It is a popular place, though, so perhaps are palates are too sophisticated!
