Staying near Davie & Thurlow Streets and decided to try La Brasserie. Expected a typical size restaurant and quite surprised to find it had about 6 or 7 tables and about 6 seats at the bar with the cooking going on right in front of you. We had not made reservations but were able to get 2 seats at the bar.
My wife had never heard of lamb cheeks and pronounced them excellent. I had steak tartare and gave it the same rating. We enjoyed it so much that we made reservations for the next night, our last night in Vancouver.
My wife enjoyed the lamb cheeks so much she had them again and said they were just as good the second time. I had the 1lb of mussels and could not finish them. They were excellent as well.
When we told the folks at our hotel how much we liked it they said they recommend La Brasserie all the time to their guests.
If you are staying in the West End of Vancouver, give La Brasserie a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Dinner before the fireworks (Festival of Lights) and surprisingly not awfully crowded. Our first visit and we will be back. Had the duck rillettes as an appetiser and the steak frites for the entrée. Both excellent. The wine is a bit on the pricey side but altogether La Brasserie is good value. Service is professional, friendly and very efficient.

This is a small friendly restaurant. The menu is also quite small though they have specials as well.
The food we ordered was well presented and tasted very good
If you can get a table it's well worth a visit

Many, many hatted restaurants over the last 10 years, but tonight we had the best in all that time. Grilled Halibut on squid ink Gnocchi, with butternut squash and greens. OMG.
