We stayed as a family of 4 (kids aged 9/11) in August.

Lovely hotel, really fun and I highly recommend. Lots of vintage quirks, particularly enjoyed gaming on old consoles with the kids (only chance I ever had of being able to compete with them!). The roller skates were a great touch and gave us a memorable afternoon along the beach front. Lots of fun teaching our techy kids how to dial an old telephone and use a typewriter. Location is awesome, a stones throw from the beach/harbour and restaurants on Barnard street.

Everything was clean and comfortable, freshly painted, bright and cheerful.

The staff were super helpful, but I wish they had been more fun when we checked in (our son is called Zed which was reason for choosing this hotel, and he was really excited, we were asked his name on checkin and no one noticed ).

Only thing to be aware of if travelling as a family is there’s lots of visible drug use and homelessness on surrounding streets - there’s a shelter on the street behind. We’re from Hackney in London so kids are used to this sort of thing, but even my 11 year old commented on someone shooting up heroin on the street behind as we walked past. Not a deal breaker, but just be aware of it if you have little ones to hide it from/open discussions with.

Based on the photos, we thought this was going to be an amazing experience. It ended up being a very expensive experience for what you get. The walls are paper thin, you can actually hear the full conversations of the people in the room next to you. We found leftover pizza from the previous guests in the fridge (it obviously wasn't cleaned out). There was also pizza on the floor and a eye contact on the nightstand. When we went to shower, the drain was clogged (they fixed this when we mentioned it). During our entire four day stay, they never once came back to make the bed, clean or refresh the towels even though we put the sign on the door to do so. The only good things about this hotel were its location and the free bikes!

We had SUCH a great time at Hotel Zed! The location was fantastic, right by the lake in downtown Kelowna. We had fun using the bikes and longboards, the tandem bike (harder than it looks!), the pool, free tea and coffee, and relaxing around the hotel. Staff were really responsive to any concerns we uad, and we ended up extending our stay!

The ONLY reason I'm not giving this hotel 5-stars is because they have a couple kinks to work out (bike seats not adjustable on some, signage missing in places, fridge in room not working) and rooms are a bit tight...BUT, so much fun! Getting pre-teen boys off of screens is a challenge normally, but they had no interest in them because there was so much fun to be had. Even with the missing tandem bike, the regular bikes were awesome to take out for a ride through the park along the water. Then there was the discovery that ping pong is where it's at! An hour & a half later there was karaoke (Oy! Sorry everyone in earshot) a swim, a hilarious attempt at roller skating, then ice cream on the roof top deck. Friendly and helpful staff and perfect location.

If we could afford another stay this summer, we'd be there. Even for one night again. But a hotel in the summer in this area is understandably not cheap so this was a bit of a splurge for us. It's not a luxury hotel but if you have a family, I promise you it's worth it when your kids start brainstorming in the car on how to save up so we can go back before the summer is over.

Thanks Hotel Zed and staff for the memories.
